Is there a Republican candidate you like?

Post by Drewish » Wed Nov 09, 2011 7:15 pm

Personally, I ♥ Gary Johnson

  • - Believes that 100% transparency is the only campaign finance rule you need.
    - He wants a market-based healthcare system.
    - Support tort reform.
    - Wants out of the Middle East.
    - Pro-choice.
    - For federal civil union laws (leave definition of marriage up to the states.)
    - Wants to block grant Medicare.
    - Wants to raise the minimum age for retirement to make Social Security solvent.
    - Vetoed more bills as Governor of New Mexico than any other governor in history.
    - Opposed the bank bailouts.
    - Wants to legalize marijuana.
    - Would pardon all non-violent drug offenders (did so as governor of New Mexico.)
    - Against a border fence.
Nobody expects me...

I like them all for their comedic value.

Ron Paul of course.
Though most of the fakers running under republican look like Democrats to me.

A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Almost half of his positions make at least a little bit of sense, so he can't possibly run successfully as a Republican.
Who needs a signature anyway?

He's got some cool views, and some interesting views on several issues. He also identifies himself fully as a tea partier.

If I was saying it like it was a bad thing, I would have said teabagger. 8-)

What's wrong with teabagging? :dunno:
Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

Tea party supporters seem to object to it.

They don't know what they're missing, eh?

People object to it? What reason could they possibly have to object to teabagging? What's wrong with those people?

Just some first thoughts (and no I won't be back to defend them :{D )...
andrewclunn wrote:- Believes that 100% transparency is the only campaign finance rule you need.
That's a somewhat nonsensical statement, but transparency is good...
andrewclunn wrote:- He wants a market-based healthcare system.
K, I don't :?
andrewclunn wrote:- Support tort reform.
I'm not 100% sure how I feel about tort reform, but I do think there is a lot of sense in it, so...okay.
andrewclunn wrote:- Wants out of the Middle East.
That's pretty vague. I imagine he also "supports our troops".
andrewclunn wrote:- Pro-choice.
Good.
andrewclunn wrote:- For federal civil union laws (leave definition of marriage up to the states.)
Good, though somewhat safe, it's as far as you can go and be electable.
andrewclunn wrote:- Wants to block grant Medicare.
I have a lot more to read/learn about that but at this point that seems like a shaky idea to me and block grants seem really open to abuse. Not sure if that's a viable solution.
andrewclunn wrote:- Wants to raise the minimum age for retirement to make Social Security solvent.
So I can be even older when I don't get back the money I've earned :{D
andrewclunn wrote:- Vetoed more bills as Governor of New Mexico than any other governor in history.
Not sure how this is a selling point. It can be assumed there were some good bills in there :ask:
andrewclunn wrote:- Opposed the bank bailouts.
Okay.
andrewclunn wrote:- Wants to legalize marijuana.
Good.
andrewclunn wrote:- Would pardon all non-violent drug offenders (did so as governor of New Mexico.)
Very Good.
andrewclunn wrote:- Against a border fence.
So he isn't retarded. This is also good.

He sounds like a pretty typical social liberal/fiscal conservative... or as they are otherwise known: libertarian. Much better than a lot of the Republican options, but I can't imagine the guy getting elected.
