swiss chocolate...they have no cocoa plants

Quite a few European wildflowers actually came from the Near to Middle East, together with the cultivars of the neolithic revolution. I learned such things gradually by reading about them.

ETA: Oh, and, by the way, maize did not originate in North America.

Pepper. I was maybe 14 when I found out pepper and many other spices came from "the Far East". The Spice Island immediately became a destination for me.
