It finally swam to the surface of my brain.

Post by Gawdzilla Sama » Sat Oct 29, 2011 5:40 pm

Something bugged me about the end of "X-men Origins: Wolverine" and I finally remembered what it was. I got a letter updating me on a guy I knew in the jungle. He had been hospitalized with "shell shock" and was almost catatonic the last time I saw him. A corpsman promised to let me know if he improved and about two years later he sent me a letter. My friend had gotten up one night and left the hospital in his pajamas. They found him forty-five miles away, in the California desert. He had walked through San Diego and out in the wild without anybody noticing him. They caught up to him when he evidently passed out from exhaustion.

There's no point to this post.

How is he now?
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

They learned something important from him. There's a point in the "recovery" when the patient is functional, but still not far enough along to give a shit. My friend stepped in front of a train while on a supervised outing from Balbao.

That's really sad.

I don't think he would have ever have come all the way back. I don't think he wanted those memories.

A good friend of my families was a marine in Iraq. His entire unit was ordered to get help for ptsd wen they got back. He still hasn't fully recovered but is a lot better than he was a couple years ago.

Yeah. I talk with some guys at the VA once in a while. One guy came up to me in the hallway and said, "Does it get better?" I replied, "Mostly. But it doesn't get any worse." "That's good, that's real good." And off he went.
