St Paul's Cathedral Closed
St Paul's says it has closed for safety reasons, but protesters insist they cannot be moved on without court order
How long will London's authorities allow St Paul's to remain closed before they have to resort to violent removal of the protestors? Apparently the camp has caused the cathedral to be closed on grounds of "Health and Safety". That seems very contrived: health and safety has been cited as an over-arching concern to which the only solution (surprise, surprise) is the removal of the protest, but the hazards have not been detailed nor advice been publicized on how the protest could minimize them. In this context the decision to close the cathedral is rather suspicious - can anyone find a rational explanation for this action?

Yes, the health and safety excuse does seem a tad dramatic in that light.Zombie Gawdzilla wrote:Conditions are getting pretty bad.

Sounds fucking suspicious to me. The people from the Cathedral were initially encouraging of the protest. No doubt someone is putting pressure on them. Health and Safety is a pathetic excuse. Much like the excuse they came up with for the Wall street protesters "cleaning the park".

Seems a wee bit un-Christian? Is that what Jesus Christ would have done? Didn't he have a grudge about money-lenders or something?

Yes, though on the other hand, the injunction to the dove sellers from Mr J.Christ was ‘Get these out of here! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!’ (John 2:13-16), so presumably closing the gift shop is just getting back to their roots.Crumple wrote:Seems a wee bit un-Christian? Health and Safety trumps all. Those concerns would be genuine.

Presumably in that case any large protest should be banned on health and safety grounds.Magicziggy wrote:Health and Safety trumps all. Those concerns would be genuine.

Indeed. And the long arm of the law really hunted Al Capone down for tax evasion.Magicziggy wrote:Health and Safety trumps all. Those concerns would be genuine.
