Now we have this new 'system' which is being called various things in various places, shock capatalism, neo-feudalism this and that. What we need to realise is that this is going to cause irrevocable damage to the biosphere and mankinds longterm prospects of survival. It needs to be stopped, and sooner rather than later, regardless of the cost since the cost of letting it continue will be universal oblivion by a 8 degree or more temperature rise across the globe over just a few decades...which in so short a space of time could cascade unknown factors into unstoppable runaway atmospheric changes making this planet like venus, incapable of supporting multi-cellular life...at all.

That would be great, but I don't think it could happen until the US doesn't have it's economy so strongly under the influence of foreign markets. Plus, not using so much petroleum would have many more numerous advantages.JimC wrote:Fair point...Robert_S wrote:Alternative fuels and fuel conservation for the West, especially the US.
It's the only way to disentangle the worst of both cultures without major ecological disaster.
But also (sorry if I seem to be channeling Gawd...) an end to the US habit of allying themselves with whichever repressive dictatorsdhip seems to offer a narrow addvantage in the current game of international Realpolitik... It never ends well...
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

A smaller population would help. There is a immense strain on resources because of a ageing population.Robert_S wrote:That would be great, but I don't think it could happen until the US doesn't have it's economy so strongly under the influence of foreign markets. Dubai is fucking nuts. It is possibly the greatest act of Folly that mankind has ever endevoured. The airport alone is ostentatious. It is however very much a little Britain out in the Desert and I'd suggest the mentality of those holidaymakers that frequent there year after year don't mind the oppression, after all it's just like the Raj, everyone knows their place and the wogs don't get uppity.
I couldn't properly process it in the 24 hours I was there, but I can see some Djinn making it going the way of Iram of the Pillars. Still it's good to see that Mammon fucks Allah's ass as as deep as he fucks Yaweh's.

I should have said 'uncommonly known factors' there as I was referring to methyl-hydrates and some other things that are not commonly known, but have been noted in circles, & quite capable of turning a small house fire into the fire of London. I changed it for the humour, since humour consolidates memory.Feck wrote:Crumple wrote:universal oblivion by a 8 degree or more temperature rise across the globe over just a few decades...which in so short a space of time could cascade unknown factors into unstoppable runaway atmospheric changes making this planet like Venus, incapable of supporting multi-cellular life...at all.One of your best
