Virgin Mobile

Post by Mallardz » Wed May 27, 2009 6:04 pm

I have a lovely new Sony Ericsson W595 but the bastard service provider have put a lock on my phone and I want to remove it since I the shortcut key above the red phone button is a link to virginmobile.com. I'm on a "pay as you go" plan and it costs me 30p every time I hit this button which I tend to do a lot since on my previous phone the same button opened my contact list. My friend has the same phone which is not networked locked and hers has the contact feature here. Due to my network consisting primarily of degenerate retards who are no help at all I can not change this shortcut.
I have looked around the internet for help on unlocking but have not been successful in my searches.
Does anyone have any information on how I could go about unlocking without relying on the inbreeds at the other end of the phone?

Hiya!

At quite a few car boot sales there's usually a stall selling mobile phone crap. It's my experience that they'd unlock any phone for a fee.... :), if you trust them, of course.

Try your local market, usually a handy chap there who can provide the service you need....

I will have to have a look about then,
Some networks I know you can do by entering "##5722" then entering a code network dependant but I can't find one relevant to virgin mobile.

If you threatened to set fire to Richard Branson's upstart beard, he might tell you the unlock code......

Maybe but he may also lock my number as a result then I can't even access my friends numbers and the primary reason for my mobile is to stay in touch with friends who moved away.

You could try a newsgroup to find the service manual. (*cough* :whisper: linky *)

:D Hello guys
There will be an option in the settings menu to change shortcut keys, you can change it to open contacts on that phone too, it's usually located in the display settings.

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

Yep, Settings->General->shortcuts and you'll see an option to change the Navi-keys.

Nope on my make you can only change the centre keys the one that is locked as a link to a webpage is the one above the little red phone top far right. Can't be changed.

Hmmm, getting the phone unlocked won't remove the button then, it means virgin installed custom firmware on the phone with that as part of it, you could get the phone re-flashed to default sony firmware but that can be risky, otherwise if you don't use the internet on your phone just delete the packet data settings and your phone won't be able to establish a connection and it won't cost you anything.
