Want to name a giant telescope?
The VLA (Very Large Array) wants a new name! You can submit your ideas and you never know - you might win!
My idea is 'Big Fuckoff Telescope'..

I'd suggest the "Triple Jesus Shit Big Array" but the acronym would by nonsensical, like the current one.
Although it may look like a forum, this site is actually a crowd-sourced science project modelling the slow but inexorable heat death of the universe.

Re: Want to name a giant telescope?
While we're at it, does anyone else think the way John Hurt showed Jodie Foster the way to piece together the alien code was a bit lame? They'd had armies of mathematicians working on it for weeks, and none of them had thought to just connect the pages at the top and the sides to establish overall coherence. And John Hurt had to make a phone call from space to impart this inane revelation. Lame.

Re: Want to name a giant telescope?
It wasn't just "top to bottom", each "page" was a 3D construct. (Something I didn't get clearly from the book first I read it.)Exi5tentialist wrote:While we're at it, does anyone else think the way John Hurt showed Jodie Foster the way to piece together the alien code was a bit lame?
