Duck! (again)

Post by Faithfree » Sat Oct 15, 2011 3:20 am

We all miraculously survived the re-entry of UARS a few weeks ago, now ROSAT (ROentgen SATellite) is scheduled for re-entry sometime between 21 and 25 October and somewhere between 53 degrees north and south latitude. It is predicted that up to 30 individual pieces may reach the Earth's surface. "The largest single fragment will probably be the telescope's mirror, which is very heat resistant and may weigh up to 1.7 tons".

Carry an umbrella.

There wasn't any death and destruction with the UARS. Let's hope ROSAT puts out. :pop:

Flightpath appears to rule out mayhem in the UK...for now.

I just checked the link. Korea is right under the flight path. :ab:

The image on the web site is just a "Sample representation based on three consecutive orbits of ROSAT" and not meant to indicate where it might come down - could be anywhere between 53 degrees north and south.

ROSAT's latest position and track for the current orbit (which lasts about 90 minutes); refresh to see updates of position in real time:

We need the mirror to hit one of our local megachurches.

It would be particularly amusing if it landed on Harold Camping's church on October 21st. :hehe:
