Time for Liam to come out of the closet?
Re: Time for Liam to come out of the closet?
So no 'closet gays' in government. That's your policy?
You said yourself that a gay man would have to hide it to be successful in the political arena, so what you're saying boils down to 'no gays in government'.
I'm sure there must be a fine point I missed somewhere.

I don't know this guy. Does he promote anti-gay policies? That sort of hypocrisy is the only thing that would warrant an "outing," in my view. Otherwise, like him or not his sexuality is his own business.

'Read the thread'? I'm not going to repeat what I have said several times - and my guess as to what he may well have done. Firstly he is right wing and in his university days was pretty anti-gay. It looks likely to me he is gay, but he is also a political high flier. Gays get by in politics these days but they still don't get to the very top, where he had set his sights. So he gets married to take on all the 'respectable' trappings. He then lives a double life spending a good part of his time with boyfriend flying all over the world.PordFrefect wrote:So no 'closet gays' in government. That's your policy?

The accusation is hypocrisy and dishonesty, not homosexuality, about which I could not give a toss one way or another ..erm..
..and it looks like I did repeat myself - oh well.

Who gives a shit if he's gay, transexual or runs a dungeon full of slaves? And who gives a shit whether he publicises any of that or not. It's all his choice.
Here's what I DO give a shit about though: -
Liam Fox has just returned from a diplomatic mission to Libya where he discussed defence shit with the new transitional government. How could he have fulfilled that role effectively if the Libyans had known at the time that he had an unofficial "advisor" that followed him around and was paid for by a secretive group of backers because he was promoting a euroskeptic, pro-America & pro-Israel agenda!
THAT is what compromises his ability to do his job! He has been bought and paid for by a special interest group that refuses to show its face.
Cunt. Sack him and never give him responsibility greater than emptying the litter bins and ashtrays in the House of Commons ever again!

If I could summarize what you wrote above - gays are ok in government, but not in the higher echelons. Maybe they can get the policy makers a coffee?

Re: Time for Liam to come out of the closet?
How you got that from my posts I do not know. Gay people can do what they like and I am as liberal as it is possible to be on the matter. I was referring to the reality of the fact that neither the Conservative party, nor probably the British public would accept a gay Prime minister at this point in time. And that was where his ambitions lay...and may still do so.PordFrefect wrote:I have read your comments and most of the thread to this point and I've expressed my surprise at your views.Rum wrote:'Read the thread'? Seems accusing a politician of being gay is considered by some to be more likely to get him howled out of politics than anything he's done in his role as a politician.Xamonas Chegwé wrote:Who gives a shit if he's gay, transexual or runs a dungeon full of slaves? Not true in Oz, at least; Bob Brown, leader of the Greens and a very influential politician is openly gay.PordFrefect wrote:So no 'closet gays' in government. That's your policy?

Dead right. I am a little peeved that my point seems to keep being nudged into a homophobic direction. Dishonest, hypocrisy - all driven by ambition and often hubris is what I hate. It is a poisonous combination in people who are supposed to actually represent us after all.JimC wrote:Not true in Oz, at least; Bob Brown, leader of the Greens and a very influential politician is openly gay.PordFrefect wrote:So no 'closet gays' in government. TBH, having a crony of yours without security clearance attend numerous meetings with you ... that's plenty enough cause by itself for getting the boot/falling on your sword IMHO. Good riddance.
