Do you really think even 10 billion is something that can be dealt with?

If you compare China to India, they are definitely doing something right. China has a slower growth rate than the US now. At least they did face up to it.

The problem is immigration. The countries that have a huge growth rate just export some of it to the countries that are acting responsibly. I would practically stop migration, if I was in power.
Then countries like Pakistan would have to feed all of their new mouths, rather than the rest of the world sorting it out for them.

I was referring to their practice of sex-selective 'abortion'. Surely you've heard of it.

Population expansion is not a problem
as long as natural resources can cope with
it. Also what is the maximum Earth can sustain
given quantity of said resources as of now ? And also
remember large areas of the planet relatively uninhabited
such as Australia for example. And if sio concerned then why wait
until now to do something about it ? Why not have done something in the
last fifty years ? What is the United Nations doing ? And what is Christianity doing
about educating African women on birth control ? How is that coming along ? Anyone know ?
i am doing my bit to help. I am a single man with no children who is celibate and will remain so for life

Without numbers, it's meaningless. It could be a miniscule number doing it, or very widespread.
I think it's fairly common in India and Pakistan, but again, I have no idea what kind of numbers.

And Surruptitious, it's not so much land area that's short, it's food and water and energy.
Australia has lots of area, but it's baking hot, and bone dry, and not very practical to inhabit in numbers.
Same goes for Northern Canada, and Alaska, and Northern Russia, for different reasons.

And it's the churches that are FIGHTING the use of contraception in Africa. Not encouraging it.

It could be, but it's not. If it concerns you, which it apparently does not, try researching it.

Most of the time areas are sparsely or not at all inhabited there's very good reason - deserts, antarctica, high mountains, etc. Not to mention there's only so much arable land and the damage to the environment by expanding settlement/farms into forest and such. Also, more people= more global warming and hence less area that's inhabitable/farmable overall.

There are a few solid reasons why Australia is relatively uninhabited.

Something along the lines of "there's no fucking water and the soil is crap".

Same for most "relatively uninhabited" places.

No solution here as far as I can see.

No it doesn't concern me that much. With the world human population approaching seven billion, THAT concerns me.
Seven billion is plenty. In fact it's far too much. So I'm not concerned about some chinese human fetuses being aborted, I'm concerned about whole other SPECIES becoming extinct, because the human population has exploded.
If this practise helps with that problem, I'm ok with it. Not that it's any of my business.

If you want a bit of a scare go to this link and watch the population counter ticking a little way down the page. Brings it home.

I think so. I wouldn't underestimate the benefit of education for boys in this as well, though.

That and the availability of effective means of fertility control (for both sexes), 'morning after' remedies and abortion, all of which should be readily available to anyone.

Things missed so far include that whilst first world population growth is slowing, even stalling, it is also ageing and at the same time the uneducated regions for reasons of ignorance and dumb arse religious stupidity are having a population boom which is leaving them with a massive restive youth population. What will come of this? I suggest the first world will all but disappear over the coming decades as poorly educated immigrants make inroads into the what was the advanced industrial world. At best the movie Idiocracy will cease to be a parody and become a prophetic foretelling, at worst the west will begin to resemble Liberia and the population will collapse as industrial civilization no longer as the skilled workforce to keep it going. :smoke:

Ignorance is bliss. Do not concern yourself with the evils of humanity young Padawan. Life has nearly been extinguished on this planet many times before and there is no reason for the human race to survive. :levi:

Population isnt as important as its lifestyle.

I use more resources than an entire village of Ethiopians , an American more
A typical first pet world dog uses more resouces than an African

If we regess to the level of 'sustainable consumption' of the third world things will get better? There is something wrong with this argument but I can't think what. :fp:
