Equal time for Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill then?
I didn't say equal time. Like for like means they should all be presented as folklore or myth with no grounding on science .
Why not equal time?

Such a pity, with all that education you quoted, you didn't actually learn to READ!

Sure, of you like. Although I don't know who you are revering to. Those are names of individuals, not belief systems. And I meant indigenous peoples, not people. Subtle difference.

One in, all in. Spiderman gets equal time, Prof. Xavier, an exemplary moral model, gets time as well.

OR we can leave that to the individual to explore as they wish.

O.k. - so you don't want theology taught in schools? Or, you want it taught to 14 to 17 year olds? Please clarify.

Ooops, sorry. You haven't heard of the X-men?

Anyway, my point is that if you introduce some mythical figures you have to introduce all mythical figures or discriminate among them. And the criteria for that would be impossible to establish.

My point was about indigenous beliefs. Have to draw a line somewhere. There's a difference between popular culture and traditional belief. While x-men may have it's followers, it doesn't have it's believers.

I am all in favour of religion being taught in schools but
providing that it is done as a humanity and not as a science
I am also in favour of all variations in all spectrums - religious
political, philosophical, economic - being taught so that pupils are
aware of such differences. But teachers should not over step the mark
and impose their own interpretation. And this applies equally to atheists as
well as theists. Pupils should be taught how to think, not what to think beyond
basic factual information. It is the job of the teacher to educate not to indoctrinate
and most probably avoid that anyway. But once a pupil leaves the class, and returns home
they can have everything they learnt dismissed. Yet parents too have a responsibility to educate
Well personally I tend to think that that anything can be a science, where science refers to systematic
study, or a subject-area that has its own internal systematic structure. After all, we freely use the
terms political science and social science, I really do not see anything particularly controversial
about the scientific study of the sciences of religion. Theology is a legitimate academic
subject in its own right, and from what I gather is intellectually very demanding.
As for teachers 'overstepping the mark' as you call it ('imposing their own
interpretation') I don't think you've really hit the nail on the head of
what you're trying to say. After all, we expect maths and physics
teachers to teach their interpretation most of the time, I really
don't see what's so controversial about teachers of theology
teaching from their own perspective. And again I think
you have a very arbitrary boundary between what is
education and what is indoctrination. Personally I
think in principle the two things are exactly the
same. No one has a monopoly of truth, surely?
No, not anything can be a Science. Some subjects are Humanities
such as English, History, Religion, Art and Philosophy whilst Biology,
Physics and Chemistry are Science. Now you are entitled to an opinion
but that does not automatically make it right. So on this you are wrong
But this really is so elementary that am surprised you made this error but
I applaud you for thinking differently to the rest of us but that still does not
make you right. And there is no such thing as the Science of Religion for that
is an oxymoron. Far more accurate to reference the Psychology of Religion. For
it is all based on the fear of death or more specifically what happens after we die
But what is the point of being afraid of something you have zero control over. I am
not afraid of death and neither should anyone else be. Moving on : Maths and Physics
teachers do not teach their interpretation, rather the interpretation. So it is not actually
a matter of opinion if a circle has three hundred and sixty degrees or if light can travel in
a vacuum. This is established scientific fact. Teachers have no choice in this. But Religion is
littered with metaphor and ambiguity, so a teacher would be quite capable of putting their own
slant on it and no one would be any the wiser as to whether it was actually true or false. Your turn
A MIND IS LIKE A PARACHUTE : IT DOES NOT WORK UNLESS IT IS OPEN

The Line is what I'm talking about. Who gets to decide what The Line is to be?

Well x-men and spiderman are undisputed works of fiction. There are those who wish to hold up certain religious texts and oral tradition as truths. These should be presented in full light so they can be seen for what they are, why they are and where they came from.
