Anyway, I wasn't impressed. Ayaan wasn't impressed. It seemed to be a checklist movie to me, They had to get certain things "out there" so the franchise could proceed.

and I'm fully entitled to whine after I bought all 7 books and never finished N°7 because her writing style and ability to produce a page turner deteriorated as the series advanced.
My daughter was 8 when the first one came out, and she loved it straight away (before all the hype started, in fact).
