History, related in the present tense! ARGH!
Was in the car listening to Radio 4 earlier and there was a programme with a section about the 1812 wars with America, Napoleon and so on. The 'expert' did what you very often hear and which drives me bonkers. He was saying things like 'Napoleon's forces are stretched in Russia as the British fight on two fronts, meanwhile in America privateers are harassing the British fleet off the Canadian coast'..etc.
It happened in the past! The past has a tense ! Its called the PAST TENSE!
