Pile of crap that I regret sticking out to the end. Really. Don't waste your time on that one.

After watching three of Tarantino's films (Reservoir Dogs, Natural Born Killers, Kill Bill I)I have learnt to stay clear of them. Not saying they are crap, but to me they are insufferably examples of style over substance.FBM wrote:Pile of crap that I regret sticking out to the end. Really. Don't waste your time on that one.

Re: What Are You Watching Now?
Reservoir Dogs was good to me, NBK was OK. Kill Bill was much less of a disappointment than Death Proof. Much, much less. Compared to Kill Bill, Death Proof was kindergarten, at best. And Kill Bill was already pretty infantile.Hermit wrote:After watching three of Tarantino's films (Reservoir Dogs, Natural Born Killers, Kill Bill I)I have learnt to stay clear of them. Re: What Are You Watching Now?
I looked it up on Wikipedia. The books have an interesting history. The author wrote the first book in response to his creative writer teacher's urgings to do something along those lines, under protest from the author. So he wrote that first book just to show his teacher just how crap such a thing would be. "See? It's rubbish!" But the teacher took one look at it and told him, "Wow. This is publishable. No, really, this is very good." Or something along those linesJimC wrote:I have it on DVD!tattuchu wrote:I started watching this show. I could stream it for free on amazon. I can stream a lot of shit for free on amazon but most of it is shit. It's hard to separate the wheat from the shit, as the expression goes. But this one looked like it might not be so bad. Gave it a chance. It's not bad. The Dresden Files. It's about a wizard in NYC (I think?) who hires himself out to people who need help, kind of like a cross between a private dick and a psychic. For a wizard, he doesn't do an awful lot of wizardly things. Low budget for the show, I imagine. For overall the show is surprisingly not lame (like most TV shows). The acting is solid and the scripts are decent and the dialogue is fairly natural and not cliche-ridden. It's a rather modest affair, but enjoyable nonetheless.
I've read the entire fantasy series on which it's based, The Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher. Well worth a read.
The TV series was very different to the books in many ways, but had enough of a connection to be worthwhile...
PS - Tatt, it's set in Chicago...

So that's cool. But I'm not sure what to make of that. Since going on to write a whole series, does the author feel he's been prostituting himself, then?
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.

Re: What Are You Watching Now?
Being Human was streaming for free on amazon. Unfortunately I couldn't even make it through the first episode. I didn't mind that it was a character-driven show, but it was just too soap-opera-ish for my tastes. Also I was annoyed right from the start because of inexcusable egregiously retarded things like a ghost, an incorporeal being, being able to interact freely with tangible objects. She opens the door, she picks up tea cups, etc. The only thing ghostly about her is that people (sometimes) can't see her. Well why not just make her an invisible girl, then? What's the point of making the character a ghost if she's no different for all practical purposes than a normal person?

Watching episodes of Pawn Stars. It's fun to see all the cool stuff people bring in to the pawn shop, and the cast of the show are pretty funny and likable even though I'm assuming everything is scripted.

New series of The Trip with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon - this time, The Trip to Italy. Just the most relaxing gentle comedy.

Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.
