What the hell is going on? This must be the longest bail hearing in history. Is there a rep from the Guinness Book of Records around?
Half an hour should have done it. There's no doubt whatsoever that he's guilty of at least manslaughter, but in reality, murder.
Even if he genuinely DID think it was a burglar, he's still deliberately shot to kill.
He can't claim his life was in danger from a locked door.
So he shouldn't get bail, full stop. There is NO prospect of him walking free from a trial, it's just a question of what he actually gets convicted of.
Why allow bail, when he is sure to go to prison anyway? Bail is for people who MIGHT be innocent.
His only chance of ending up free is if he's sprung from jail.

This is in Sth Africa, remember. SA castle laws are more like (if not worse) than the US laws, if I'm not mistaken. Home invasion is a serious problem there (home owners often get murdered in the invasion), and there's a hell of a lot of armed home owners there. Shoot outs are pretty normal in some situations in SA.

Listening to some of the judges reasons, it seems he had little choice.
From what he laid out, the strength of the case against him seems not to matter. It's more, "will he turn up?", than "did he do it?".
It's interesting that the cop who WAS leading the investigation is charged with something so remarkably similar. Who in their right mind would put him in charge of the case? He apparently, with other cops, shot at a car that failed to stop. I don't know if his defence wil be that he feared for his life, like Pistorius's. Or maybe, they will claim that they were shooting at the tyres. That's what I'd say. It may actually be what happened. But anyway, it's so similar, it's ludicrous.
The judge did point to some remarkable things missing in the evidence. Firstly, why didn't Pistorius know that she wasn't in the bed, when he grabbed his gun, which was kept by the bed?
Secondly, why didn't he shout at the person in the toilet to identify themselves, before opening fire?
And no mention of what I would like to know, which is what did Pistorius say when he presumably phoned for police and ambulances after the shooting. And what did he say happened, when the police and ambulance people got there.
Not a word about that from either side.
