Not the actual rate.
The period of sixty three years, since CO2 began a significant rise, has seen about half of one degree C rise in global temperatures. With the last sixteen showing nothing at all.

That is not a rate that anyone needs to worry about. Even if we do see another half, in the next sixty years, it's not a problem, it's probably a benefit.
And if the CURRENT rate is maintained, there will be no change by the end of the century.

So the rate is not a major problem. Not the actual rate. The only rate that is a problem, is the IMAGINARY rate, that they keep promising us, which just never seems to happen.

You know what coal is made of right? Carboniferous plant matter that grew and flourished during a warm period in Earth's ever-changing climate.

No more carbon exists today than existed a billion years ago. It's a closed-loop system and the carbon we extract from coal was extracted from the atmosphere by plant life in the past and it will in turn be bound up once again by plants and it will be recycled yet again...and again...and again.

Lol. It doesn't address anything. The fact that the carbon cycle is a closed loop addresses absolutely nothing about AGW. It's WHAT FORM that the carbon is in that is critical in this specific aspect. While it's in gaseous form in CO2 and CH4 it a greenhouse gas that contributes to a warming of the system. If there's too much of that gas, then there's too much warming.

Some 15,000 or so years ago North Africa was a verdant, lush grassland habitat filled with life. The climate changed and now North Africa is a desert filled with life...of a different sort and in different quantities...including human beings. And yet life and humanity abides. Get over yourself. You have no right to expect that the climate will not change, and if it happens to affect your lifestyle, tough shit, adapt or die.

Because there is a serious dispute about the both cause and the effect of the "change" even now, not to mention a serious dispute about the eventual consequences of both what has and is happening (like the Maunder Minimum) and whether or not what the AGW alarmists insist must be done immediately if not sooner to "fix" the problem that they are now having great difficulty proving actually exists, given the failure of their prognostications over the last 16 years, is either rational or necessary.

Can humans have an impact on an ecosystem? Of course. Are the results of human impact inevitably of such a negative character and gravity that the wholesale destruction of both individual liberty and entire national economies in a panic response burst of irrational, fear-based regulation warranted?

Not in the slightest.

Human beings are part of nature and the ecosystem and what we do to it is entirely natural as well. Humans have as much right as any other creature or natural process to modify their ecology and habitat to suit their preferences and to advance the evolutionary interests of their species over all other species. Time will tell whether or not humans have made the correct evolutionary choices. In the meantime there's absolutely no reason to panic about "global climate change" because that too is a perfectly natural process that will proceed as it is wont to do with our without our intervention. It may just be that our "AGW" activities may be what staves-off or prevents a global cooling event that produces Ice Age glaciation which wipes out most life on earth.

It's too soon to tell. It's always too soon to tell you see, because climate is as climate does and change is the only unchanging aspect of climate.

We're not talking about "half a degree", Seth. It's a shame you don't actually listen and learn in any of these discussions. We've been over this all before. Ecosystems can't just pick up and move. Infrastructure can't just pick up and move. Even if we put aside the ecosystem cost, the cost to economies is going to be trillions of dollars. A staggering impost on economies just to "adapt" as you call it. A far more sensible idea would be to transition economies to a more sustainable and greener energy base and then lose no economic growth, and save all that trillions of dollars and human suffering and misery. But I understand that's all too complicated for you to understand. It's easier to just bleat idiotic slogans like "adapt or die" over and over again.
