The problem is that ALL you look at is the harm caused by guns. You utterly refuse to acknowledge the harm PREVENTED by an armed citizenry. That makes your arguments more of a polemic than any sort of rational debate.Blind groper wrote:GawdzillaGawdzilla Sama wrote:Then why the feeling that you're at liberty to scold an entire country?
This is a debate about the harm caused by guns.
We are simply discussing the debate topic. Not scolding anyone.

You should vary that with "over" and "both on your sides". Just sayin'.Wumbologist wrote:I typically do well under such close personal instruction.Twoflower wrote:

Re: Bang, Bang, Yer Dead!
One could also make the case that the US homicide rate by guns is remarkably low given how prevalent they are. Some comparison statistics:
Gun-related homicide rate in the US: 4.14 per 1000 people.
Ratio of guns to people in the US: 888 to 1000
Gun-related homicide rate in Estonia: 8.07 per 1000 people.
Ratio of guns to people in Estonia: 92 to 1000
So, we could say that Estonia has nearly double the gun-homicide rate as the US with barely 10% of the guns per capita.
Just a thought off the top of me head.

I must agree, because I have not only viewed the stats on the number of crimes prevented by the presence of a firearm on the part of the intended victim, but have personally prevented at least 2 and probably 3 violent crimes by demonstrating to the potential offender that I had a firearm and was willing to use it to protect myself and the people I was with at the time.Seth wrote:The problem is that ALL you look at is the harm caused by guns. I would love to take some of the anti-gun people here to an elk dinner or duck unlimited dinner. Showing them part of the gun culture might help explain a few things.
I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain

I'm anti-gun, but it's not because I haven't been exposed to guns. I have several cops in my family, my sister went to Iraq and my Dad carries everyday. I just don't like guns.Twoflower wrote:I would love to take some of the anti-gun people here to an elk dinner or duck unlimited dinner. I was talking more about the non Americans, I feel like Americans who are anti gun or don't like guns at least have some knowledge and insight about them, like you do.Kristie wrote:I'm anti-gun, but it's not because I haven't been exposed to guns. I don't like them either, and I own one. What I do like is that I'm allowed to own one.Kristie wrote:I'm anti-gun, but it's not because I haven't been exposed to guns.
