The Electrical Trades Union took a complaint to the Electoral Commission on Friday after receiving legal advice that the offer of $100 could constitute a bribe under section 326 of the Commonwealth Electoral Act.

Could? I assume that's just a sop to "due process". Looks pretty blatant to me.

Um, only if the person votes that way.

Since it's still presumably a secret ballot it's more by way of an incentive, since the voter is under no obligation or compulsion to actually vote that way.

Besides, isn't bribery what all politicians do anyway when they make campaign promises that they have neither the intention nor the ability to fulfill?

"Vote for me and I'll put a chicken in every pot!" Bribes don't get any more blatant than that, do they?
