If they have 2 hours before or after their shift, they don't need time off from their employer, they just need to not make excuses and get their asses there early or as soon as they leave work! It may be more difficult for people that commute, but no impossible.Coito ergo sum wrote:Many states do have such laws. They don't apply to most people, because most of the laws don't require the employer to do anything if the employee has 2 hours before or 2 hours after his or her shift ends giving them time to vote. But, many states do have laws that require, if an employee, say, has a 12 hour shift that day, they have to be given sufficient time to enable them to vote.Kristie wrote:I bet a lot of people don't realize their employers have to allow them time to go vote. Lots of people like nurses work 7a-7p. And, Indiana's polls close at 6 pm.
The following states do not have time-off-to-vote laws: Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont and Virginia.
Hubby works for the Dept of Education, so he's off that day! Should make getting to the polls easy for me!
