Thanks for the sarcasm. Had I said anything like that I would have been absolutely wrong.

I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops. - Stephen J. Gould

Partial disclosure - I don't know who this tweeter is, or if his tweet is genuine, or if it was memed honestly.

Re: Gamestop stonks revolution
This is kind of starting to look like a trap, but it does strike me as funny.

Re: Gamestop stonks revolution
The reason for shorting shares was originally a legitimate one.
If one held shares in a company that might go through a rough patch but be fundamentally good investment in the long run, it made sense to short shares one actually owns. That way it was not necessary to sell your shareholding, which would have the effect of dragging the price down. So it was intended as an insurance policy, and hence the name "Hedge Fund" hedging a bet against volatility.
Of course it became apparent that money was to be made in a falling market, and so people started hedging shares they didn't have.
...so the instrument that was designed to create market stability, actually ended up having the opposite effect.

This is where Occupy Wall Street led. I thought it rotted with identity politics, but it went into cocoon and, well, what the fuck?

Re: Gamestop stonks revolution

Maybe the stonks discussion belongs more in the conspiracy theory thread...

When will you tell us how you know that RobinHood's CEO is Ghislaine Maxwell's son?

Stonks is looking more and more like a trap.
...but I guess since I'm not playing, it doesn't matter much. I must admit though, I am getting tempted to buy some Dogecoin.
Shit's getting kooky.
