What flavor of libertarian -- social or economic? I'm guessing economic; they seem to have taken control of the party.

That's always been the deep dark secret of the Libertarian Party that they don't like to talk about--that there's this fissure at the core of the party between the social libertarians and the economic libertarians. It shows up as soon as there's a clash between individual rights and laissez-faire. It is not possible for both to be absolute; either the economy is the servant of society, or society is the servant of the economy.

Personally, given a choice between the two, I'll take the former.
There's no clash. The economy is part of society.

There is a split on whether fetuses are to be treated as human beings. There used to be alleged libertarians who were actually pro-business rather than in favor of the free market, but I haven't met one in ages.

In the U.S., Libertarian just means:
Socially liberal
and
Demonstrably, provably, consistently, uniformly wrong on economics.

Oh hey, it looks like your trying to start a libertarian thread. Can I redirect you to another thread with an appropriate name to discuss that? K, thanks.

No, not particularly interested in starting a thread on it. I actually was more curious if he was using social or economic libertarianism as his baseline. I haven't had much use for the theory since a brief dalliance with it in college.
