New immigrant from RDF...

Post by Kalira9 » Tue Feb 23, 2010 4:19 pm

Just found out about what happened this morning. I must say, I'm completely shocked and disgusted...

On the bright side though, we get bigger avatars, and a wider selection of smilies! :D

Some of you might already know me as "Blackrend". I was pretty active on Dawkins' forum but recently I've become more of a lurker because of school work and such.

As for a little introduction: I've identified as an Atheist for roughly 2 years now. Richard Dawkins' writings are largely responsible for my deconversion, although I grew up in a moderate Christian household and never really took religion that seriously. I am currently a senior student at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh studying Game Art and Design. To see some of my work, you can click the link in my signature.

I am a MAJOR reptile fanatic, but had to give up my collection a few years ago because I was going off to college. I plan on starting again once I graduate, though ;). I enjoy watching anime, cosplaying, and listening to metal/rock music, and I've recently started to get involved in the furry community (whilst avoiding the abominably creepy people to the best of my abilities).

My only real hobby is scavenging or collecting animal skulls, but I don't really have the opportunity to do it while I'm living in the middle of the city.

And that's about it for me. ^_^ If anyone wishes to add me on facebook, you can find me here.

EDIT: Just realized I didn't spell "immigrant" correctly. Durr hurr..

Thank you! :D

I've been browsing around the forum... I must say I really like the more laid-back atmosphere here. It's different than RDF.

Hiya, Kalira9!

Yep, definitely more laid back here. No heavy-handed modding or multi-page set of rules and guidelines. Mostly, we just ask that you "play nice". Glad you're here! Have fun! :td:

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm very glad to be a part of this forum. I loved RDF but I think the rules and layout of Rationalia suit my style a little better. On Dawkins' forum I always felt obligated to tie every topic back to Science and/or Atheism somehow... Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I enjoy having discussions about more generalized topics, as well. This forum seems to have a little bit of everything, so I think I'm going to enjoy myself a lot more here.

And as a game design major I'm especially pleased to see that you have an entire section devoted to video games. :D

I know what you mean. I used to rethink every post at least 5 times before I submitted it at RDF. There's a lot more leeway to stray from the OP (except in the Lounge and Serious Discussion) here. Some threads are derailed from the first post. I'm not naming Gawdzilla's name, though. ;)

There's a good number of gamers here! I'm not one of them, but I think you'll find some good company...

I honestly don't play a whole lot nowadays. Art school is pretty intense so I rarely get time away from my computer.

My tastes are pretty varied, but mostly shooters (even though I suck at multiplayer), action-adventure, and RPGs (Western only. Give me something like Mass Effect over Final Fantasy any day). The last "new" title I played was Prototype, so that gives you a sense of how behind I am. Haven't touched a video game since. :(

Hello Kalira9, and welcome! :flowers:
