Why does it? It is based on actual figures for income, life expectancy, literacy, etc. Who is spreading propaganda here? And why? Surely you can't have started a conspiracy theory here without a shadowy figure behind the scenes.

Two things:

1) Most things that appear to be conspiracies (or planned / designed) are just things that emerge naturally from simple processes.

2) I stopped watching the TED talks because they had plenty of pseudo-science promotion going on and also because of all the touchy-feely crap that sociologists kept lying about pushing through it.

- Is there any point to compiling such a list? Yes, it is to pressure nations to further those areas that are seen as favorable by the standards of the report. These standards are subjective and there is little point in even compiling them other than a "Who's dick is bigger?" contest in an attempt by the U.N. to have some form of influence over the priorities of the nations of the world.
- The U.N. obviously
- To have any influence at all (They don't matter two shits and they know it and aren't happy about it.)

Rather than accepting some top-down Statist evaluation of what country is the best, why not look at things the democratic way and see where people are immigrating to / from?
