Perhaps we should all go stay with Normal and his Pig Fireplace.

Oh no, it's easy to say that a first world country is better than a third world country. It's when you compare the first world countries that it all breaks down.Xamonas Chegwé wrote:So call their bluff - go live in Niger!andrewclunn wrote:Bah, subjective propaganda.

Why does it? It is based on actual figures for income, life expectancy, literacy, etc. Who is spreading propaganda here? And why? Surely you can't have started a conspiracy theory here without a shadowy figure behind the scenes.andrewclunn wrote:Oh no, it's easy to say that a first world country is better than a third world country. Check out this TED talk. Then re-evaluate that statement.andrewclunn wrote:Oh no, it's easy to say that a first world country is better than a third world country. Two things:
1) Most things that appear to be conspiracies (or planned / designed) are just things that emerge naturally from simple processes.
2) I stopped watching the TED talks because they had plenty of pseudo-science promotion going on and also because of all the touchy-feely crap that sociologists kept lying about pushing through it.

You still haven't answered my questions.andrewclunn wrote:Two things:

Why is it all propaganda?
Who is behind the propaganda?
What is their motive?

Fine, this one deals with UN statistics. It's not touchy feely. But if you don't want to, it's a free country... sort of.andrewclunn wrote:Two things:

- Is there any point to compiling such a list? Yes, it is to pressure nations to further those areas that are seen as favorable by the standards of the report. These standards are subjective and there is little point in even compiling them other than a "Who's dick is bigger?" contest in an attempt by the U.N. to have some form of influence over the priorities of the nations of the world.Xamonas Chegwé wrote:Why is it all propaganda?

- The U.N. obviously
- To have any influence at all (They don't matter two shits and they know it and aren't happy about it.)

OK. now your evidence for this. Or is it as subjective as you claim their figures are?andrewclunn wrote:- Is there any point to compiling such a list? Rather than accepting some top-down Statist evaluation of what country is the best, why not look at things the democratic way and see where people are immigrating to / from?

Or here, why don't you choose your own criteria and make up a "best country EVER!" listing of your own.
