The thing that really pisses me off is the complete lack of recrimination anywhere in the media - they're all far too shit-scared to criticise dear Bernard (and his lawyers). Everyone I spoke to tonight was aghast at his blatant effrontery - yet the BBC and the papers act, at worst, as if justice has been done and, at best, as if "nobody really knows what really happened..." For fuck's sake! The guy he bribed is currently serving 10 years in jail for receiving a bribe (that was PROVEN in court to be a bribe) that the perpetrator has now re-bribed himself out of!
Let's take a look at the defence he was offering - the defence that was (allegedly) so convincing that a conviction could not be ensured and was probably likely to fail... an essential part of allowing him to buy off the case. He claimed that he paid the money to the guy because he was being blackmailed. He further claims that the blackmail involved disclosure of FALSE accusations of tax evasion.
So, what kind of a wanker would pay someone 26 million quid because they threatened to make an entirely false accusation? Either the money was paid as a bribe (as claimed) or it was paid to a blackmailer that must have had convincing evidence - evidence that was worth £26m to cover up!!1! Either way, Ecclestone is a crook and deserves whatever he gets. (Or is it normal business practice among the super-rich to pay off any blackmailer that bothers to email you to the tune of millions? If so, I'm in the wrong fucking job!)

Nothing wrong with one law for the rich and another for the poor so long as everyone gets a fair crack at being rich along the way. Some here misunderstand the idea of being rich. The politics of envy. Things are meant to be a little more flexible at the top.
