Death panels 2012

Post by Tero » Thu Oct 04, 2012 2:07 am

This is cool. You get to deal with your death in...wait ...Massachusetts, under the plan Romney set up.
Last week, the senate in Mitt Romney’s beloved Massachusetts passed Bill S.2260, designed to improve health care and reduce costs. Amendment 121 reads in part:
“(c) If a patient is diagnosed with a terminal illness or condition, the patient’s attending health care practitioner shall offer to provide the patient with information and counseling regarding palliative care and end-of-life options appropriate to the patient, including, but not limited to: (i) the range of options appropriate to the patient; (ii) the prognosis, risks and benefits of the various options; and (iii) the patient’s legal rights to comprehensive pain and symptom management at the end of life.”
The death panels are back.

It's like gayness. We were too embarrassed to even talk about...gasp...Dick Cheney's gay daughter. Now we can't face up to the fact that we are all going to die. The healthcare for the last 2 weeks of your life is typically useless and unnecessary. It does not even extend life in most cases.

I can't believe Romney invoked death panels. Politifact.com gave that one their Lie Of The Year for 2010. Jackass.

Well I suppose a panel of people working with a patient to ensure their last few days/weeks/months of life are as comfortable as possible could be called a death panel but that would a be a bit like calling a retirement home a death factory. Sure its technically correct but misses the general point of the process

Having read that article I do find it a bit weird to discuss plans for dying before you have any reason to think its imminent as I suspect most people wouldn't know how they would feel until that situation occurs

I think Death Panel would be an excellent name for a heavy metal band.

The Patrick administration is desperate for ways to address skyrocketing health care costs that result from their own refusal to allow the free market to work. Of course they only consider centrally planned approaches. The government is going to add veto power over all hospital expansions, too. Next they'll claim veto power over any doctor hires.

Just shows how Democrats can take a good idea and screw it up.
