Student's Protest Obama's Crappy School Lunch Mandates

http://townhall.com/columnists/kyleolso ... lunch_menu
In Wisconsin, high school athletes are complaining about not getting enough to eat each day, due to the skimpy new school lunch menu mandated by the United States Department of Agriculture and First Lady Michelle Obama.
The story we published earlier this week on that subject is unfortunately not unique. Students across the country are complaining about the new school lunch regulations.
Perhaps the real motive is to starve students into slimming down. Just ask students in Pierre, South Dakota who, too, are in an all-out revolt.
"I know a lot of my friends who are just drinking a jug of milk for their lunch. And they are not getting a proper meal," middle school student Samantha Gortmaker told Keloland.com.
Despite the fact that the new regulations have increased the cost of a lunch 20 to 25 cents per plate, it’s not pleasing students.
If the veggies served with school lunches are anything like they were when I was a kid, they are practically inedible unless drenched in cream and butter, and even then.... I used to bring lunch from home as a kid. A ham and cheese sandwich with a piece of fruit is just fine. All this shit about "hummous and black bean salads" -- I mean -- fuck off! What's next? Arugula and kale salads with carmelized pears on the side?
“There’s just not enough” food, said 16-year-old Callahan Grund, a football player and star of the video. By Friday it had garnered 48,000 views – more than 62 times the population of Sharon Springs, a farming town not far from the Colorado border.

“When you have chores in the morning and football practice after school, you need energy. … This doesn’t cut it,” Grund said.

The major sticking point: a new federal rule that sets calorie maximums for school lunches — 650 calories for elementary-schoolers, 700 for middle-schoolers and 850 for high-schoolers.

That is just a good example of why centralization has plenty of issues, and you can't just make these blanket rules for everyone. People need to be left to determine what they want to eat. And, what works in New York City might not work in Hayseed County Nebraska.

What's wrong with providing a healthy lunch for kids? Serving sizes are set for a reason. If the older kids think they're not being fed enough, they can bring something to go along with their school lunch, or they can just bring a whole lunch from home. Since it's public schools, and not private, I don't see why anyone should be complaining that something good is being done about the way kids eat these days. I've eaten with my daughter multiple times at school, and the food is pretty good. She eats things at school that she claims to not like at home.

Do you mean to tell us that these fine student-athletes can't get a 4000 kcal gutbuster for $2 courtesy of the School Lunch Program 2 hours before they run their wind sprints and tackling drills? That the family farm and American Family Values has sunk so low that parents allow their children to sleep in so late that they can't haul their hay, muck their stalls and get their chickenfried steak & 3 eggs with biscuits and gravy and hash browns before school? What the hell!!

Nothing. What's wrong is that unelected cunt Michelle Obama is in charge of the federal government meddling in something that it has absolutely no constitutional authority whatsoever to meddle in. Decisions about school lunches are made at the state and local level, not by that nosy bitch or her minions.

Still, it's better than having that retard Romney at the wheel, right?

So kids can no longer pack their lunches?

I don't see what the difference is in what level of government the decision is made. Would it be better if the Governor of Wisconsin made this decision?

I think it wasn't just the older kids who were complaining about being hungry, and if the lunch shown in the video and the articles about this are what they are serving, I'm not sure I would call them healthy. Anyway, the kids revolting against the lunch menu is kinda funny!

Well, yes. It would be better if local school boards decided these things, because then there would some reasonable possibility of having the decisions made that reflect what the people in the school district want. D.C. makes decisions on the national level, so what Hayseed, Nebraska wants/needs is not really relevant. They are looking at what would apply to most communities, which would mean Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, New York City, Boston, Miami, Washington, DC, Seattle, etc.

A parent can go to a school board meeting and speak their peace and it can be accommodated by the School Board. Washington DC can't listen to the people directly.

Kids will revolt against lunch until you give them pizza and french fries everyday. And that video showed a great example of why kids need lunch to be healthy. Did you notice what all the older kids were bringing in to act as 'Food=Fuel'? Junk! Complete and total junk! Chips and pop! If the farm and football boys need more calories, they should eat a big healthy breakfast and bring a few healthy items to add to their lunch provided by the school.

Not if you know what's good for ya!
The girl’s turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day.
http://www.carolinajournal.com/exclusiv ... ml?id=8762

So, since the turkey sandwich with fruit and juice wasn't good enough, the know-it-all federal inspector made her eat some chicken nuggets. Thank heavens we have federal regulations to protect us! Whew! That was a close call!
