Apparently, someone decided 27 February-4 March is Acupuncture Awareness Week. I’m happy to help out.

You should be aware that acupuncture is total bollocks.

There. Is that enough? No, it is not. We must also crash a stupid online poll. Devastate it, please. It’s on a site run by dishonest quacks, so I think we have the potential to smash their poll so thoroughly that either they a) shut it down in embarrassment, or b) start faking the numbers.

Where's your critically-robust scientific evidence that acupuncture is "total bollocks?"

Empirically, acupuncture has been used for more than 3000 years, and like other non-traditional medical treatments, I seriously doubt that it would persist for that long if it was "total bollocks."

It may be only a placebo effect at work, but so what? If it works, and gives the patient relief, it's not "total bollocks."

Now, I would agree heartily if you were merely objecting to the government paying for it, just as I would agree that the government paying for ANY medical care is "total bollocks."

I didn't even look at the piece till after I responded to you. It wasn't necessary to do so in order to rebut your attack.

People have been obtaining relief from acupuncture for 3000 or more years. That's proof enough for me that it can be effective. How effective? I don't know, nor do I care, so long as I'm not being forced to pay for somebody else's treatments. People have a perfect right to spend their own money on any remedy that gives them relief, any remedy at all, but it's up to them to make the decision and suffer the consequences of being wrong.

So, I have no quibble with acupuncture, or homeopathy, or any other "alternative" medicine at all, so long as I'm not being required to pay for it.
