Ken's bright idea is to introduce provisions that allow rapists who plead guilty to receive a 50% cut to their sentence. During a Radio 5 Live interview, Clarke sparked a row over whether or not rapists should receive cuts in their sentences and even suggested that statutory rape and some date rapes are less serious than "forcible rape", leading to Labour calls for him to resign. It should also be noted that a Commons committee last year decided that there should be no legal separation of different 'types' of rape.
