Reality sucks.
Think about it. No, seriously.
Think about any person you have ever met? Strangers on a train, dead relatives, school teachers etc.
What are they? They are just neurons firing an electomagnetic pulse somewhere deep inside your brains.
Even everything you have ever done! It's nothing. It no longer exists. It's now only a spark of electricity stored in one single lump of meat. When that lump of meat dies, it's gone forever.
To some guy in the street, that's all I am to him...
When I die, that's all I will be to everyone I know.
When they die, I will not even be a memory.
Reality sucks.

Some realities suck more than others.

Have you been hanging out with crumple again?
It's true, in the end most of what we do doesn't matter at all especially in the context of the age of the universe, but it does matter to the people who are with us now. Even words on a screen can have a big impact on how we feel about ourselves and what we do with our lives. It's more of an excuse to take some chances and have some adventures, love a bunch of people, find little ways to make yourself and others happy and especially to not dwell on unimportant things. We are each here for such a short amount of time but we have this amazing ability to consider and create and experience. It's all just chemicals and electricity but holy crap it can be wonderful! If you're in the position to philosophize and post on your personal computer you are luckier than most people born at most times in the world, take advantage of it in every way you possibly can

We are already dead. These thoughts are generated by the decay process which began not long ago. Dead but we don't know it. Like the dreamer unaware of their dream state so we are unawre we are dead, cannot be aware of the greatness of life ever again.

Re: Reality sucks.
My point is, that reality exists for a very short time, and it only exists as a jolt of electricity. Very soon, it no longer exists at all. That includes me, you and everyone else we know.

OK, there is a certain awesomeness about it.
Especially this bit: "take advantage of it in every way you possibly can

Seriously though, the idea that I'm a speck of fuck all, despite daily events feeling so hugely important, and that I count as nothing in the grand scheme of the universe, is pretty mind blowing at times..
I may be a little durnk, apologies if that made no sense

Re: Reality sucks.
The OP is the starting point of Buddhism DSI. I seem to recall you have an interest in it, so the concept isn't new to you I suspect, though these things have a way of suddenly hitting us in the face with the force of their 'reality' and then abating for a bit in my experience as the detail of everyday life comes back to preoccupy us.
I find as I get older though that I spend more and more time seeing through the 'illusion'.

sonnetLXV
Since brass, nor stone, nor earth, nor boundless sea,
But sad mortality o'ersways their power,
How with this rage shall beauty hold a plea,
Whose action is no stronger than a flower?
O! how shall summer's honey breath hold out,
Against the wrackful siege of battering days,
When rocks impregnable are not so stout,
Nor gates of steel so strong but Time decays?
O fearful meditation! where, alack,
Shall Time's best jewel from Time's chest lie hid?
Or what strong hand can hold his swift foot back?
Or who his spoil of beauty can forbid?
O! none, unless this miracle have might,
That in black ink my love may still shine bright.
