The five biggest sources of donations to Romney: Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse, Wells Fargo.
The five biggest sources of donations to Obama: University of California, Microsoft, Google, government employees, Harvard University.
One group consists of giant financial institutions which move money around, the other group consists of institutions which develop and deal with ideas.
Obviously I have a favorite and I'm hoping to see a moral victory, but this election is turning me into a cynic.

But to be fair to Romney, no one gets to be President unless they have been bought and paid for - and that includes Obama. It's just a question of who is paying the piper (and often enough folks are betting each way!).
The President is no more than the Team Captain, he is not the coach let alone the owner.......so, whilst very important never essential......the days of the man at the top actually being the undisputed boss are long gone (plusses and minuses to that).
In the case of the USA I rather fear the election is about choosing a new Captain for the Titanic - whether the ship has already sailed is a matter of opinion.

we've been telling you about mitt romney's decision to double down on his lies about the automobile industry lately. i mean, he's been ripped by everybody in the media. nobody believes a word the guy says. today the united autoworkers, they decided, you know what, they've just had enough of this. the united autoworkers and the service employees international union and five other groups have filed an ethics complaint against mitt romney. the groups wanted united states office of government ethics to investigate romney's finances. they say that romney has failed to disclose how much he profited from the automobile rescue. the allegations stem from romney's investment in delphi, a major auto parts supplier for general motors. "the nation" magazine reports ann romney invested at least $1 million in delphi in a blind trust at the height of the financial crisis. the romneys bought stock at bargain basement prices. delphi shares were going for 67 cents a piece before the automobile rescue. today delphi shares closed at $32.53. good for them. it's a 4,000% gain on romney's investment. now, we know the romney family made at least $15.3 million in the wake of the automobile rescue. but we don't know exactly how much romney made because he won't release his 2009 tax return. he won't tell us how much he actually invested. remember, mitt romney was against the automobile rescue. he wrote this op-ped in "the new york times" saying that we should let detroit go "now we're learning he made at least $15 million off the very policy he opposed. tonight the united autoworkers are demanding the

Re: 2012 US Election -- Round 2
The latest monthly employment figures came out an hour ago: 171,000 jobs were added in October, an increase in hiring from September's 149k, but the official unemployment figure rose from 7.8% to 7.9%.
I think this data is pretty much a wash, and both campaigns can spin it plenty to little effect at this point in the election, but let's hear what the forum's conservatives think. I wonder if we'll hear any more talk about number-fixing conspiracy theories? WIll there be new rants from Jack Welsh?

Re: 2012 US Election -- Round 2
I think its a continuation of anemic "job growth" which does not keep up with the increase in the job age population. It remains the fact that if the work force was the same size as it was in January, 2009, the unemployment rate would be on the order of 11%. Thus, we have an unemployment rate as low as it is not because of decent job growth, but rather because of people just dropping out and stopping looking for work.Ian wrote:The latest monthly employment figures came out an hour ago: 171,000 jobs were added in October, an increase in hiring from September's 149k, but the official unemployment figure rose from 7.8% to 7.9%.

In August, we gained like 96,000 jobs and the unemployment rate dropped from 8.3% to 8.1%, because of continuing decrease in labor participation, which in August reached a 31 year low. The worst since the Carter recession. If the participation rate had not dropped so precipitously in August, unemployment would have risen to 8.4 per cent.
So, here we have 171,000 jobs added, but the unemployment rate goes up again. Probably because some people reentered the workforce participation number.
This is not a "conspiracy" -- it's just crap numbers, and trying to spin it as if things are "headed in the right direction" would never fly otherwise. If Romney wins on Tuesday -- mark my words -- suddenly, these kinds of numbers will be shit to Democrats. Just like under Bush, when unemployment had gone up to like 5.4%, the cacophony from Democrats was that the Bush Administration had "cooked the books" and that the umemployment rate was really double.
Conspiracy theory indeed .... remember when the wars were a conspiracy of Halliburten, Carlysele Group, Oh, My! -- All the voting machines were rigged by the Bush Administration -- and the Bureau of Labor Statistics couldn't be trusted because Bush "cooked the books?" Obama White House economic adviser Austan Goolsbee said in the New York Times in 2003 that the Bush Administration “cooked the books” to get a 4.4% unemployment rate.
The common refrain around RDF and other forums (from Democrats) was that the unemployment numbers weren't real and didn't matter to all those people who were out of work. If the numbers went down, they weren't believed, and it was a conspiracy of the Bush Administration to misrepresent them.
Today, the media comes to Obama's rescue on this issue, with NPR and other outlets jumped through hoops to show how it was impossible for the Administration to influence BLS numbers and that the hardworking, toiling number crunchers at BLS wouldn't do such a thing anyway. I don't buy into the conspiracy theories, but I do find it interesting that the media had no interest in demonstrating the inviolability of BLS numbers in 2004 and 2005. That should provide yet another example of how the media is in the pocket of the DNC.

Errrrr.... a "blind trust" is a trust where the beneficiaries (in this case the Romneys) don't control or even know what the investments will be.
A blind trust is a trust in which the fiduciaries, namely the trustees or those who have been given power of attorney, have full discretion over the assets, and the trust beneficiaries have no knowledge of the holdings of the trust and no right to intervene in their handling.
So, how can it be unethical? Are you claiming Romney directed the investments in the blind trust?

Taking cues from Romney's latest ad in Florida which claims Castro and Chavez are supporting Obama?

Everyone knows it "blind" is in name only. Any "trust fund" attorney can tell you that. Between Romeny's attorney and info about "his (who knows how many) blind trust, there are NO SECRETS.

More Romney Rubbish – One line at a time
November 2, 2012
By Cosmic Surfer
As reported by Buzzfeed:
As supporters lined up to greet the candidate, a young volunteer in a Romney/Ryan T-shirt stood near the tables, his hands cupped around his mouth, shouting, “You need a donation to get in line!”
Empty-handed supporters pled for entrance, with one woman asking, “What if we dropped off our donations up front?”
The volunteer gestured toward a pile of groceries conveniently stacked near the candidate. “Just grab something,” he said.
Two teenage boys retrieved a jar of peanut butter each, and got in line. When it was their turn, they handed their “donations” to Romney. He took them, smiled, and offered an earnest “Thank you.”
Yep, it appears part of the Romney Kettering event was staged to look like everyone brought donations; to appear that all jumped in to pitch in — in order to save the nation without FEMA, government or those pesky relief efforts that have saved millions of people (well, we won’t count GW and Heckovajob Brownie” during Katrina or daddy Bush and Hurricane Andrew in 1992)

As reported by Buzzfeed:
As reported by Buzzfeed:The plan was for supporters to bring hurricane relief supplies to the event and then deliver the bags of canned goods, packages of diapers, and cases of water bottles to the candidate, who would be perched behind a table along with a slew of volunteers and his Ohio right-hand man, Senator Rob Portman. To complete the project and photo op, Romney would lead his crew in carrying the goods out of the gymnasium and into the Penske rental truck parked outside.
But the last-minute nature of the call for donations left some in the campaign concerned that they would end up with an empty truck. So the night before the event, campaign aides went to a local Wal-Mart and spent $5,000 on granola bars, canned food, and diapers to put on display while they waited for donations to come in, according to one staffer. (The campaign confirmed that it “did donate supplies to the relief effort,” but would not specify how much it spent.)
After Romney’s speechifying with stories of football fields and experienced clean up, he went to shake some hands….
