The Coronavirus Thread
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Yeah, he'd probably be fine to keep up. I've never tried a marathon, but I'm pretty sure he is faster.
Trails are strange though. Lots of fast runners can't lift their feet enough. Lots of trail runners can't go 'fast'.
But I would wait for him, if we had that arrangement.
And I don't mind running with manlets, though the ones I run with are generally WAY too fast for me. Some sort of selection bias, surely.

Yeah, they are slower, but trails are better than the concrete jungle. The air is cleaner, and there are generally fewer muggers.Cunt wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 9:14 pmYeah, he'd probably be fine to keep up. I've never tried a marathon, but I'm pretty sure he is faster.

Maybe so, but physiologically, they are quantifiably different.Joe wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 9:44 pmYeah, they are slower, but trails are better than the concrete jungle. Lifting your foot each step is good (he probably does, because a shorter pendulum is a REAL advantage) but most runners don't bother, since it takes a lot to train.
In addition, and more importantly, there is a 'cognitive load' to trails, which is quite a good size of puzzle. You don't have to think much, but if you don't plan your steps, there can be problems. This repetitive, mild cognitive task is one of the training benefits I use in the merciless pursuit of my overall fitness goal.

Yep, better for those reasons too.Cunt wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 9:47 pmMaybe so, but physiologically, they are quantifiably different.Joe wrote: ↑Mon Mar 22, 2021 9:44 pmYeah, they are slower, but trails are better than the concrete jungle. Looks runnable.
Part of that 'cognitive load' that I think is key, is the genuine importance.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Oh, you seem pretty convinced from here.
There just isn't time for anti-vaxxors. If Harris said she wouldn't take one if Trump did it, then later says they don't work, and you need masks anyway, it's pretty safe to dismiss her, and those towing her party line.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
OK, I'll bite. Who's been saying vaccinations are a replacement for masks?

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
If vaccines work, you aren't going to need to protect yourself with a poorly washed mask.
Those suggesting that you still need to mask and distance, are trying to deny that vaccines work. They work or they don't. I think they do.
Feel free to side with Harris, and dodge the vaccine because Trump recommended it.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
I did. We've used them a long time. When they work, they work the same way as natural immunity. (keyword immunity)
So the anti-vaxxors like Harris and them can just shout away. Like the famous 'Wakefield Study', I'll give it the respect it deserves.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
If they don't get rid of the mask mandate people won't take the vaccine.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Because it sounds like the vaccine doesn't work, if they tell you it doesn't work.
It's like lasic surgery. Lots of people get it, and still need glasses for stuff. If I still need to clean, maintain and purchase glasses, why the FUCK would I go under the knife for different glasses?

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
It's about 100 times harder than that little tunnel. Miss that first turn, you fall 1200 feet to a closed casket funeral when Search and Rescue gets around to fetching you. Also, you're about 12,000 feet higher than where you train and to get there you've already had to run 10 miles, so you're tired and it's hard to get enough air.
But it's definitely runnable...and glorious.
