Questions for Mandy
Re: Questions to Muslim Mandelson
Someone has to report the posts, and that someone has to have been the one targeted. Until then there's nothing to act on.
If they have been reported then the staff will have to work out whether Mandelson was being patronising or just a creep.

Reporting a post that doesn't actually break the letter of any rules (even if it breaks the spirit of them) can't result in any action.born-again-atheist wrote:Someone has to report the posts, and that someone has to have been the one targeted. Until then there's nothing to act on.

Re: Questions to Muslim Mandelson
Well, seems like there's a bit of incongruity there, then. The staff have responded to actions which haven't broken any rules, I don't see why they wouldn't respond to Mandelson if the posts have been reported and enough people are taking offense.Thinking Aloud wrote:Reporting a post that doesn't actually break the letter of any rules (even if it breaks the spirit of them) can't result in any action.born-again-atheist wrote:Someone has to report the posts, and that someone has to have been the one targeted. I mean, you know honestly I don't think anything needs to be done about it. If we're going to let him come on and say child rape is okay then you can't warn him for saying 'mate'.

Re: Questions to Muslim Mandelson
We don't rely on posts being reported anyway, that's just a useful feature to bring stuff to our attention. We act on rule-breaks wherever we see them.Thinking Aloud wrote:Reporting a post that doesn't actually break the letter of any rules (even if it breaks the spirit of them) can't result in any action.born-again-atheist wrote:Someone has to report the posts, and that someone has to have been the one targeted. There's some irony in finding the use of 'mate' unacceptable while defending, say, casual profanity.
But if it's that bothersome you could always use the South Park derail.

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

What about a woman who is not truly raped? Is it o.k. to stone her?
Duh. So, you think it's o.k. to stone a woman to death for for that?
mandelson wrote: then its up to the islamic judge to do what he wants with her.
LOL - so much for the law - just "do what he wants with her..." That's another reason why Islam is a crock.
mandelson wrote:
sometimes he will just give her only 100 lashes.
Another barbaric practice. Strike 1000 for Islam.
mandelson wrote:
but i think he will stone her coz thats what rules say.
Bullshit rules.
mandelson wrote:
law is the law.
Stone her!!!!
Not the cases that we've seen....the women aren't lying - they were raped, and are nevertheless stoned.mandelson wrote:
is she is lying just to ket the boys in trouble, then she will be buried in the sand up to her shoulders and then she will be rocked. people will throw large stone to stone her to death. thats the islamic law for lying about sex. muslims take sex very seriously you know. we dont joke about it. you get stoned for screwing around.

It comes down to perceived intent in the end. If the staff (after consultation) feel that you are calling somebody mate deliberately to piss them off, and that person complains about it, then that can be as bad as telling them to pawiz.Coito ergo sum wrote:Even mildly patronizing and deprecating phrases get warnings couched as "gentle reminders," sometimes.Thinking Aloud wrote:It's OK to be mildly patronising and deprecating towards others on this forum, repeatedly, at length and ad nauseum, even if they find it insulting or otherwise offensive, as long as you do it reasonably politely and don't actually break any rulesborn-again-atheist wrote:Don't place a value on a word because of its definition, but because of how it is used.- after all, some of us are enjoying all the excitement.

At the end of the day, Mandy, it would be easier on everyone if you didn't use such a friendly manner of address with people that are obviously at odds with everything you say. A little more neutrality on your part would ease the situation.

Here's a question for Mandelson: Does female promiscuity cause earthquakes?
If you say no, then I guess you know something that the muslim cleric delivering a national prayer in Tehran doesn't know.

Why the fuck are any of you making such a fuss about being called "mate" even if it's being used intentionally to bug you (or not)? Get a grip for fucks sake.
