RD.net has spawned and died. Its seeds are swimming in several different directions. Ratz and RS are diverging although some cross fertilization is still occuring. This is speciation at the social network level.

Actually, it would be fascinating to see a potted history of atheist forums, how they grew and faded, mutated, reproduced and evolved... Some of course, arose through spontaneous generation, which breaks the biological analogy, but others certainly arose via fission events. And of course, they are parasites to a degree; a vigorous, attractive forum may "suck in" the members of a less active forum, leaving it as a shrivelled husk...
