A good a reason as any for Republicans to vote for Huntsman in the primaries:

But that ain't gonna happen. If Perry gets the nomination, look for Huntsman to be a front-runner in 2016.

I hardly think agreement with liberal press distortions of the truth is something Republicans are looking for.Ian wrote:A good a reason as any for Republicans to vote for Huntsman in the primaries:

It would be a good reason for Democrats to vote for Huntsman - or Ron Paul - though.

He was very popular in Utah. He has a good fiscal conservative record, and he has the record of being able to deal with Democrats. He's a pragmatist, and not an ideologue. He also has no chance of getting the nomination. I think it's pretty clear it will be Romney (at least out of the current field). I suppose it's possible for someone to throw everything askew by jumping in the race late, like Palin or Christie. But, doubt either of them will run. If Palin runs, may actually become politically active for the sole reason of defeating her. I like Chris Christie, though, so if he runs I will be happy.

Herman Cain won the Florida "straw poll." What, if anything, does that say about the constant harangue that we hear in the media that the Republicans are racist?
And, Chris Christie is apparently considering jumping in after all....

Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/09 ... z1YufMdrdRWith the party’s frontrunner sagging, Chris Christie is reconsidering pleas from Republican elites and donors to run for president in 2012, two Republican sources told POLITICO.
The New Jersey governor has indicated he is listening to big-money backers and Republican influence-makers, and will let them know in roughly a week whether he has moved off his threat-of-suicide vow to stay on the sidelines of a presidential race that remains amorphous heading into the fall, the two sources said.

What "constant harangue" are you talking about, other than some of Bill Maher's jokes (which I wish he'd stop)? I don't see a constant harangue based on race.Coito ergo sum wrote:http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/201 ... traw-poll/

It also says that straw polls involve a small number of people and mean very little. Cain has zero chance of ultimately getting the nomination.

Ah, but if Christie runs, the competitor from whom he's likely to take the most votes from is Romney, not Perry or one of the other batshits. And if Romney can't hold (what's left of) the Republican moderates together around him, Perry could come in and scoop up the rest of the field (save for Ron Paul's perpetual 5%).Coito ergo sum wrote:I am a fan of Huntsman.Ian wrote:A good a reason as any for Republicans to vote for Huntsman in the primaries:

Writing off Perry after one weak debate performance is probably over-reacting. His "collapse" would be all but forgotten if he has a good performance in a future one (and considering the GOP has already had seven debates already, there will be other chances for him). IMO, nobody's even close to locking that nomination down.

I am not so sure. Romney comes across as way too slick for the average voter. Perry's debate performance may have been weak, but I question whether it's going to cost him more than a couple points in the polls.Coito ergo sum wrote:I think it's pretty clear it will be Romney (at least out of the current field).
He might want to look at a map long enough to realize that the other states on the Mexican border don't have a river separating them from Mexico, though.
It says that the media is clueless, or at least that they're stuck in the 1960s, half a century out of date. That's hardly a surprise, though.Herman Cain won the Florida "straw poll." Well, I hear it all the time from Democrats. Everything the Republicans do is based on racism.Ian wrote:What "constant harangue" are you talking about, other than some of Bill Maher's jokes (which I wish he'd stop)? It's a pretty noticeable trend - see this letter to the editor of the Washington Times: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/201 ... t-cop-out/ and, here, from The Last Word on MSNBC, http://www.commentarymagazine.com/2011/ ... rd-wolffe/Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman gave voice to a concern expressed privately by some of President Obama's supporters: that many Republican attacks on him are rooted in the fact he is the nation's first African-American president.
Is Ron Paul Racist? http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/214321/ ... s-jews.htm - I don't know - is Obama? Is Harry Reid?
http://www.postonpolitics.com/2011/09/a ... nt-page-3/Aaronson: Republicans ‘all should be put in jail’ for trying to ‘destroy’ country, Obama
Just some examples there - and I hear it on MSNBC quite often, as well as around the forum here. Republicans are racists.

Perry seems to be getting whacked on all sides. When he espouses conservative views, the media excoriate him for those evil views, and when he espouses views that conservatives don't like, like the HPV virus thing, then he gets slammed again. I saw a clip from Saturday night live this weekend - and Alec Baldwin played Perry - and they had him voice a conservative view on something, and then right after that he said, "but I want every 10 year old girl given the HPV virus so that she can begin consensual sexual relationships..."Warren Dew wrote:I am not so sure. I don't think Romney has it locked - but, I'm thinking he's the frontrunner
Well, Republicans weren't even generally all that racist in the 1960's. It was the Republican party in Congress that overwhelmingly supported the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and it was mostly Democrats that opposed it. To some extent, most everyone was racist to some degree 50 years ago. But, in terms of the 1960's and earlier politics, human liberty and civil rights were Republican ideals. Laws against refusing to hire based on race, and not serving people based on race in stores and restaurants, were Republican ideals, based on what was the right thing to do, and good economic policy.Warren Dew wrote:It says that the media is clueless, or at least that they're stuck in the 1960s, half a century out of date. Obama agrees with whack-job that "Jesus is Lord."
It's bat-shit crazy to call Obama the antichrist, but not at all crazy to worship a guy who has supposedly been dead for 1980 years +/-.

So much for the doubts about Obama's Christianity, of course. He accepts Jesus as his Lord.

A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Ron Paul was on the Daily Show, below should be the full link.
Stewart makes fun of a lot of the other Republicans, then speaks with Ron Paul.
