I've visited the most well known concentration camps and death camps as well as some SS prisons. I wanted to find out how a mass genocide of these epic proportions could have even been conceived, let alone implemented.

So far the best explanation I've heard and figured is that it is due to apathy. The general population didn't give a shit about the plight of the Jews, because after years and years of propaganda (the Russians even worse than the Germans I might add) jews were considered the lowest of the low. The rats in the rodent family. No one would shed a tear over them if they were gone.

I believe that awareness should be held up in every generation so this kind of apathy does not occur in future generations.

Lozzer, you might want to consider that people carry a "tool kit" with them, and that something comes out when it's needed. You can''t have all your tools in hand at the same time, that's why Gawd gave us boxes. So, just because I'm not thinking about something right now doesn't mean it's nowhere to be found in my tool kit, just that I don't have it out right now.

I just noticed the potential for :euphemism: in the above. Good luck with that.

Who, me? :ddpan:

People can express their thoughts on any subject, just not descend into resorting to personal slanging to do so. ;)

And, yes, I know personal slanging is an expression of thought, but the reason it's discouraged is so that others feel free to express their thoughts and engage in discourse on any subject without fear of personal attack - to prevent discussion descending into unproductive arguments and derails.

:whisper: Very good answer - up to the part about derails! :hehe:

But yeah. If your argument has merit, it can be made to stand without resorting to personal attacks.

Appo-polly-loggies. It wasn't clear that the adjective 'unproductive' was meant to adhere to both 'arguments' and 'derails'. I completely take your point that the vast majority of the derails that happen here are thoroughly productive. Err... then agin... I'll get my coat! :leave:

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.
