Re: No Jews allowed to board flights to Saudi Arabia
Do you seriously think that Saudi Arabia is the place for a Jew to try to make inroads into ethnic persecution? Saudi Arabia is a nation of it's own law, not a school within a nation that can be made subject to the laws of the nation it is in.Coito ergo sum wrote:That's like asking why a woman would want to go to an all male university, or a black student would want to go to white public school. The answer is to do what anyone else does in Saudi Arabia, live, work, play, etc.Gallstones wrote:Why would a Jew want to go to Saudi Arabia? It doesn't sound like the kind of destination spot that would appeal to them.
Is there anything in Saudi Arabia that is advantageous to Jews and unique to Saudi Arabia, such that it can't be had anywhere else?

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I recognize the principle. And it is all well and good to discuss the merits of it and what a person should be able to do. But I have a feeling that the consequences of pressing the principle could be unnecessarily dire. I know there are those who like to be heroic, but what would be accomplished other than notoriety? If that.Robert_S wrote:It's the principle of them being jerks about it.Gallstones wrote:Do you seriously think that Saudi Arabia is the place for a Jew to try to make inroads into ethnic persecution? Boycotting and/or publicly criticizing the airline is reasonable, and could even be effective. But I see trying to force Arabs to accept Jews in their own nation is reaching a bit high with one's expectations.

I doubt we would force them to do anything, but we can and should show them all due disrespect over it.

Has everybody suddenly developed Alzheimers?
How come nobody can remember the dozen innocent jewish businessmen who traveled to Dubai recently, and turned out to be a mossad assassination squad, who murdered a Hamas leader.
Why on earth should the Saudis be granting travel documents to Jews or Israelis, after that?
When a state engages in assassination, it’s logical and fair to treat their people as possible assassins.
I can’t imagine why Israelis would EXPECT any travel documents to Middle Eastern countries after that.

Re: No Jews allowed to board flights to Saudi Arabia
yeah, but since when are US or European Jews that suspect of being Mossad?
Do I have dozens of mossad agents living in my neighbourhood, and dozens, maybe hundreds more coming by regularly because I happen to live right by the main synagogues and yeshivot of Paris for both conservatives and Lubavitsch haredim (and possibly other brands of haredim and hassidim, I don't know them personally or well enough to be sure)

The mossad gang had false identities and travelled from various European and American airports.Svartalf wrote:yeah, but since when are US or European Jews that suspect of being Mossad?

You know, that kind of policy is like exterminating all meat animals and forcing everybody to turn vegan because there was one case of E Coli infection.
and I remember the case well enough, thank you.

For the same reason The US still grants travel documents to Muslims and Arabs, after 9/11, and the many other terrorist attacks on US interests...and the myriad terrorist attacks on non-US interests.mistermack wrote:Has everybody suddenly developed Alzheimers?

I'd be happy to support travel restrictions on Jews to the Middle East, if I could have travel restrictions on Muslims FROM the Middle East too.mistermack wrote: When a state engages in assassination, it’s logical and fair to treat their people as possible assassins.

Re: No Jews allowed to board flights to Saudi Arabia
Perhaps it's voluntary amnesia, then.
The obvious difference to 911 was that this was assassination BY A STATE, not like Osama's, but by jews and israelis travelling as businessmen.
If the Saudi government had sent the 911 gang, I doubt if many Saudis would get travel permits to the US.
