I'm not much of a zombie fan... is it good? I still haven't given true blood a proper go yet

It's like a cross between 28 Days Later and Survivors.

It could always do with more zombies. Everything needs more zombies.

As far as the drama part goes, I'm actually happy about it. The biggest problem with zombie movies, IMO, has always been that the format doesn't really allow for character development. When you're shooting a two hour feature film, and zombies are the main attraction, there just isn't time for it. Thus, the characters tend to become disposable meat-sacks whose names you hardly remember when they get torn to shreds by the zombie hordes. A series, on the other hand, means that we get all the zombies, but plenty of time to get to know the characters that are about to be eaten by them.

The other half said it's 'too emotional' :nono: I guess he was expecting a movie-style gore fest. I like this because, like Jordg.. Jorg.. Jormungandr says it allows the characters to develop - I've seen enough zombie films, I actually want to care about the characters this time.
Men! They're all beasts!
Yeah. But isn't it wonderful?

Actually, I wrote the above half way through the first episode and they were still definitely developing the character. I think it's an excellent balance, for the reasons you just said too.

I'm really impressed with what AMC has been producing in terms of series...they are definitely giving HBO and Showtime a run for their money.
