Iran initially called it an F-35. The wreckage clearly shows an F-15E — tail markings consistent with the 48th Fighter Wing out of RAF Lakenheath. Iran misidentified the aircraft. The ejection seat is harder to explain away.

U.S. forces launched a combat search and rescue operation — Black Hawks, a C-130, reportedly F-35s and MQ-9s overhead. Iranian state media says the rescue attempt failed. One helicopter reportedly fled after coming under fire.
