And here you show just how misguided many Americans are. Murdering Osama bin Laden is not "nice news". Osama bin Laden hasn't even given any orders for years. He did one thing 10 years ago and it is only now that you guys have killed him after spending trillions of dollars and murdering countless civilians in the process and destroying the livelihood of countless other's too? Osama bin Laden was yesterday's news. Today, there are thousands more just like him because of American bigotry and greed in the world. Oh, did you know Pakistan is a dictatorship and the USA officially supports that and gives military "aid" to it?
Yeah, you're right Gawd. We should only have relationships with all the people who already have a mature, stable democracy. Or... maybe dealing with the autocratic types helps turn them into democracies. South Korea, Taiwan, et cetera et cetera.

I don't think anybody is saying that killing Bin Laden changed a whole lot. But goddamn it feels good to see it done. It's more a psychological milestone than anything else. And I think that's as good a reason as any to celebrate.
So there.

Ian, Americans don't do anything to promote "democracy". Is your idea of "dealing with the autocratic types helps turn them into democracies" giving them endless supplies of weapons and political assassinations? And what of you about Saudi Arabia or Egypt? America did and has done didly squat to promote democracy. It likes to maintain the status quo. I know you like to think that America is the hero "cowboy", but in reality it is an ugly faced pig with a suit flinging acidic shit.

And there you go, your emotions show that you are vengeful, just like many Americans who cannot see that they've ever done anything wrong to someone else.

An ugly faced pig with a suit flinging acidic shit? And I'm the one being emotional?

Where did all the American flags come from?? I bet some enterprising person figured it would be a great opportunity to sell flags, just like the tourist shops that had the newly married royal couple printed on coffee cups within the hour of their marriage. :hehe:

Students hang all kinds of shit in their dorm rooms, flags and banners are a popular item. I think you guys are reading more into these rallies than there is.
Yes, Americans are big on their flag. ;)

This coupled with the observation that college age people are the demographic most inclined to party, and the idea that they were the most affected by 9/11 and the whole "terrorism" aspect of it ...

I don't think that's an unreasonable speculation.

Though some of the belief without evidence, conspiracy style skepticism surrounding this whole thing is predictable and perhaps amusing, that doesn't render all skepticism and speculation nonsense. I think the latter is important and better aired and discussed than summarily dismissed or oppressed.

And there you go perpetuating the cycle of American thinking. I call you out for your vengeful emotions and dancing on someone's grave while not seeing the errors of what you've done or your ways and you call me a "bigot". Perhaps you will like it better if I call America "an ugly faced elephant with a suit flinging acidic shit" so that it will fit it with your political affiliation?

The Democrats are no different from the Republicans, just who gets to keep the bribe money.

It's not unreasonable, but I still think it's unlikely. How exactly would they have been instigated? By the students?

I may be wrong, but the really patriotic types are usually the Republicans and the Teabaggers...Democrats tend to be a little lower key about patriotism and flag waving. I don't think the Republicans and Teabaggers would be that keen either to rally and celebrate something that Obama's administration essentially made happen, especially when Bush failed so miserably at never being able to find Osama.

They wanted him dead, not dead or alive and preferably alive? This despite the unique intelligence that could be gleaned by interrogating the top pin of the 9/11 attacks? I'm trying to figure this out. I don't see why only a shoot to kill order was given when it may have been possible to do so much more with a live specimen. A trial would have shown just how much more civlized Western values are and also it would have have allowed relatives of the victims of the various atrocities to find complete closure through a court of law.

And can you imagine how much ire there would have been over having Bin Laden held in the US prison system, and also the reason it would give his supporters to do something drastic to negotiate his liberty?

I'm sure they could keep a prisoner in a undisclosed cold locker on some military base until the trial came up? Whatever happens the militants will make hay so why not use some imagination and interrogate him before putting him on trial?

Ah well. Little point in speculation now, since he's currently full of lead and somewhere far away in the big blue sea. :teef:

Possibly. They may have decided to keep him alive for interrogation in secret. He won't be in a fit state to face a trial afterwards? All options are on the table but for me the official line is full of inconsistancy that makes me think, hang on what is happening here.
