BTW, just so I think on my feet, would you and Aos Si remind me where you're from respectively, there have been any number of posts in this thread that just don't make sense to me, but I guess looking at it with the right info would do good.

BULLSHIT!
When I pointed out the CIA engineered overthrow of a Democratically elected government in Guyana (because it had such horrible SOCIALIST leanings as to give free milk to school children! The Audacity!) and install, (as usual) a Dictator named Forbes Burnham.
The response from Coito ergo sum was the STRAWMAN/RED HERRING that worse things happened in Japan in WWII!
Nothing. And, I never said it did.egbert wrote:

I'm from the United States. I took umbrage at Aos Si spewing his vitriol at my country for the sin of an Englishman making an allegedly factually incorrect joke about the French. Aos Si appears to think that if a Brit makes a joke about the French, it's appropriate to go off on Americans.Svartalf wrote:What's sad, is that it's probably true in more than a few places... it would also ensure more than usually crappy service at those places.Coito ergo sum wrote:Just don't call them chicken...that's crossing the line.Clinton Huxley wrote:Q) Did you hear the one about the Frenchman, the German and the Briton?Coito ergo sum wrote: Don't you know, CH, that it is verboten to make jokes that are not entirely accurate portrayals of the subject of the humor?

I was being facetious. Aos Si argues that Americans are the culprits, fomenting anti-French sentiment and fostering the notion that the French are cowardly. That's why he yelled at Americans because Clinton, a Brit, made a joke about the French. And, since I defended Clinton's right to make factually incorrect jokes, Aos Si accuses me of being a racist.Svartalf wrote: Since when are the Monty Python American humorists?

You are a racist. I happen to know, through exhaustive research, that there are in fact some civilized Americans. Therefore , your little "joke" is false and racist smear campaign, and frankly, I've had up to about here.Svartalf wrote:So, maybe I should start digging at the merkins too?Coito ergo sum wrote:I was being facetious. Absolutely correct, Suh. The cowardly swine twisted our railroad tracks into hairpins, burned our cities and starved our women and children. Not a gentleman among them, a nation of filthy immigrant shop keepers. Had Marse Robert not been such a gentleman himself we'd have hung Ape Lincoln from a sour apple tree after Second Manassas and we'd sing Dixie before baseball games.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I mean, come on - the body counts aren't even comparable....Japan institutionalized torture and rape. The US got endless shit for waterboarding like two guys. Japan set up rape camps in Korea and slaughtered millions in China and the Phillipines."
Right. Let's forget all about the illegal bombing of Cambodia and Burma. Let's not mention the betrayal of the Kurds. Let's not even think about the Kissinger/Ford OK "thumbs up" for the slaughter in East Timor.
Let's pretend the Gulf of Tonkin Incident was real.
And, South America - well, we just KNOW that any Amerikkkan intervention there was on the side of DEMOCRACY!
Tell us about the CIA intervention in Guyana to overthrow a "Socialist" democratically elected government that, horror of horrors, actually gave FREE MILK to SCHOOLCHILDREN!
Talk about fucking commies!
Amerikkka soon fixed that - under their puppet leader, Forbes Burnham, Guyana turned from a a rice exporting country, easily feeding it's own people, to a beggar economy, asking it's expatriates to send "barrels" home to feed their relatives, and the corrupt government officials.
I CAN HARDLY WAIT FOR THE CHIRPING CRICKETS FROM THE RIGHT WING LIARS!

Yawn - right. As I said - no straw man at all.
I never said that the atrocities of the Japanese had anything to do with Guyana.
I made the correct assertions that not all atrocities are equal, and I thought that what the Japanese did in WW2 far exceeded what you listed. You either don't know what a straw man is, or you can't read. At no point did I justify anything that the US did, or justify it in any way. And, since I did not try to justify any US actions I could not have, by definition, engaged in Apologetics.
And what overthrow are you referring to anyway? The one where the British overthrew the elected government of British Guiana in 1953?
