Re: The US Supreme Court
The whitest person on the court is a black boy that was first turned into a Catholic as a child
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarence_Thomas#Childhood
Although black people now have rights, he is not so sure about women:
Scalia's opinion [Thomas agreed]concluded that the right to obtain an abortion is not "a liberty protected by the Constitution of the United States."[218] "[T]he Constitution says absolutely nothing about it," Scalia wrote, "and [ ] the longstanding traditions of American society have permitted it to be legally proscribed."
In Stenberg v. Carhart (2000), the Court struck down a state ban on partial-birth abortion, concluding that it failed the "undue burden" test established in Casey. Thomas dissented, writing, "Although a State may permit abortion, nothing in the Constitution dictates that a State must do so."

Re: The US Supreme Court
He's correct, the Constitution has nothing to say about abortion, nor about any right to privacy. That is an "implied" right based on the 1st, 4th, and 5th Amendments. Tying a medical procedure to self incrimination or illegal search and seizure is tenuous at best.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Re: The US Supreme Court
I've always called SCOTUS the Nazgûl, or the NIne, for an obvious reason, but the longer it goes, the more I feel I was inadvertently right.

The newest candidate is too timid to define the term 'woman' out in the open. Sure hope that doesn't get 'her' a reputation as a diversity hire...

This bothered me too. But I immediately blamed our political climate and the negative consequences for thinking aloud.

Its hard to be sure who is a woman. Raquel Welch for sure. Helen Reddy said she was a woman.
Then we could do the laklak test.

What bothered you? That the shitbird Blackburn thought it a relevant question in the context of that hearing, or that the nominee was cautious about responding to the shitbird's question?Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Fri Mar 25, 2022 4:12 pmThis bothered me too. Re: The US Supreme Court
I'd like to preserve the innocence of declaring oneself a woman. What bothered me then is what made her question possible --our political climate.

I'm a man. Fuck you if you think I'm prepared to give you a neat definition in this space beyond that.

I thought her answer was straightforward enough, and for refraining from recommending Blackburn see a hairdresser ASAP, I'm willing to award extra points.

Re: The US Supreme Court
She said she's not a biologist. Now we have articles coming out to tell us that yes, science agrees, it is actually hard to define "woman".
Like I said, I'm not upset at her answer because she should have said something else. She didn't do anything wrong. She didn't say anything wrong.

Agreed. It seems patently unfair that the nominee has to be so careful with her answers in the face of the "jackassery" of what calls itself the world's greatest deliberative body.

Careful with that test, there are many a ladyboy in Thailand that would elicit the I know me bit, until their anatomy was shown not to be suitable...

While I know people who'd roast me if I said so in front of them, I must admit that claiming to belong to a sex that does not match your biology is something I don't understand at all... let alone all the other shades of genderqueerness.Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Fri Mar 25, 2022 5:23 pmShe said she's not a biologist.
