Why is it 'utterly fucking irrelevant'?

Let me come at it from a different angle, JimC, because I'm starting to think you really think I hate women or something...you know that isn't true, right?

Anyway, here goes.

I learned late about athletics. No lifelong pursuit for me, I started a few years ago, and have had the enthusiasm of a nine-year-old about it.

With that, I started looking for heroes to follow. Impossible standards to reach. Normal stuff.

One marathoner I admired was the Canadian Champ. She got pissed off at a running magazine because they declined to use her topless photo, saying it was 'too sexy'. The same rag had recently used an identical photo of a shirtless guy (sexy as fuck, too). She caught my attention with the way she roasted them, and I started watching. Her name is Lanni Marchant.

A bit later, I found that she had addressed our government about Canadian support for girls in Marathon. I don't know if you care, but the vid is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOLHk3GDQIM

20 minutes or so, of a VERY accomplished athlete, who learned the language of those greasy fuck politicians, and spoke most carefully, using small enough words that I got something out of it.

I'm not as hopeful about my government, but that isn't the point.

By acknowledging, and examining the differences between the sexes, in her sport specialty, she made it make perfect sense to me to make some changes which would not have been clearly good (to me) before hearing her out.

As to athletic heroes, I don't think as much of her anymore (no real reason, just don't like her) but am often reminded of how she made her case here.

So why not look for ways they excel? Is there something rude about it? Does it piss you off that I asked? Or that you don't have an answer?

Again, we (well at least I) don't care if women do or don't dominate men in one or many areas. The vast majority of jobs use technology that largely eliminates any differences (both ways) that might exist. As I said earlier, it appears that only bigots care about these sorts of things, as it is an attempt to validate their own preconceived views.

The skills on display in sport have no relevance to any employment activity. OK.

But why keep the conversation over there, instead of simply providing an example of women on top?

Our male perspectives are always going to be more relevant to our experiences as men than a female perspective, so why wouldn't we question the status and competence of women by the same standards that our own manly status and competences are assessed?

In a lot of jobs, being competitive or skilled really doesn't matter, so mostly this kind of question isn't really needed, right? I should just accept that even those crossing the finish line last, are winners. Heck, even the ones on the couch are winners.

As to whether running faster, or being able to move barrels around is important, wouldn't that depend of the demands of the particular job?

I'm getting away from the topic at hand though...we were pointing out how you couldn't provide a single example of women on top...and how it seems to be affecting your posts. For example, if I count the times you address the original topic, and compared it to the number of times you insult me for asking the question, would that ratio please you? Would you be proud of your virtue-signaling? Or examine your motives for harping on the insults instead of the facts?

I feel fine hearing that women are as skilled and competent as men. My favourite bosses have been women. Many of my most respected colleagues are women. It's great that they are out there working so hard. It's great that I get to have real relationships with them, rather than the formalized, highly limited poppycock our grandparents had to navigate.

I feel a bit weird with you focusing so hard on insulting me though. Makes me think you feel threatened by the question...

The most interesting point in all of this is the chess grandmaster situation. I think that both men and women will agree that when it comes to sports or games that involve degrees of physicality then men in general will always come first.

But what about chess, and to the same degree darts and snooker? All three involve skill, precision and dealing with pressure but they are all absolutely dominated by men. The great snooker champion Steve Davis theorised that men have more of a nerdy propensity to endlessly practice and endure dull exercises, much more so than women, but that doesn’t explain why at least one exception to the rule has never broken through to the highest level. It’s actually quite weird.

I suspect a lot of the difference is with upbringing. How many parents would have encouraged their girls to get into chess or darts compared to their boys? Same with a lot of endeavours dominated (by serious participation) by one sex over the other. But this is changing now, and I'd expect to see a female grandmaster in chess within too long.
