My mate has been going on about this book and how great it is for years. I have resisted reading it, finding Rand's theory of objectivism to be overly idealistic and unrealistic. I finally decided to give it a whirl. So far (less than 50 pages out of 750+) it seems an interesting read but I find the central character's lack of empathy, which borders on sociopathy, less than endearing.

Just been re-reading collections of science fiction stories by Cordwainer Smith, such as A planet called Shayol.

Strange and brilliant writer...

The Damned (La Bas) by J.-K. Huysmans, author of the magnificent A Rebours/Against Nature. A late 19th century writer writes a biography of Gilles de Rais, the 15th century occultist and murderer of children, and gets sucked into Satanism. What's not to love?

I am reading a book, but it's identity must temporarily remain a secret for a reason I unfortunately cannot elaborate upon. :tea:
