Back in 1474, the term "GREAT" didn't mean what it means today. It just meant "the whole thing" as opposed to divided into parts.
It just referred to the English and Scottish lands being considered as one unit.

It doesn't necessarily denote merit.
It really just means one step up from 'big'. As in the "great famine" or the "great depression".

At the moment we're definitely more 'Let's Make Britain Grim Again.'

Same applies south of the border.
Allegiance to England or Scotland is cretinous whichever you choose, wherever you live.

Since we're all classed as "great apes", technically every nation is great.

But srsly flocks, what does it mean to be 'Great' in this context? To have power and influence? To be feared? To be admired and envied? To be clever and sexy? To be a defender of truth over lies, hope of dismay, tolerance over hatred? Or to confuse self-reliance with looking inward, being insular, isolated, or misapprehending the idea of being in control by increasing the means by which we are controlled? To apply 'Greatness' as a descriptor of one's national identity is pure egotism, and one predominantly proffered by insecure, and sometimes downright paranoid, egotists unduly concerned with their social standing and personal popularity.

Popularism is a symptom of a nation's dysfunction, not its cure.

5 things that would make Britain Great again:

1) Rum, the lash, and sodomy
2) Public executions, particularly the Hang, Draw, and Quarter variety
3) Invade France
4) Send Johnny Foreigner packing
5) Recolonize Ireland
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

If you could go three rounds with Farage (win, submission, or knockout) you could become UKIP leader on that platform.

I reckon you could take him: he'll go down like a bag of spanners in round two.

Stilton !!

Not stilton. Give it some respect. Anyway, Danish Blue is better than both.
What I don't get about French cheese is how it gets so expensive, just moving it a few hundred miles.

They can ship a fridge/freezer from China for less than a fiver. But French cheese triples in price, once it gets across the channel.
