A very good article. Ben Goldacre has couple of good books out as well. I used to go to a chiropractic some years ago, since I had back problems. Whenever my back hurt so that I was bent over to alleviate the discomfort, I went to see him. My back usually felt better within 24 hours. Then he told me to see him once a month for maintenance. It was just cracking my spine once or twice, done in two minutes and charged $30 to my insurance. Then the rules changed, and I was supposed to pay him and file for a refund. I quit going. That was 15 years ago. My back still gets tender on occasion, but I found out that if I lie down on a hard surface on my back and relax, my back creaks and clicks and the pain diminishes. I take no pills for it, and my back is in better shape now than ever before. I think that the cracking of the spine by the chiropractic does more harm than good, because when you keep cracking a joint like that it wears and actually makes it more likely to go out.
