I'd be inclined to post an opinion on this if only the OP included a news article instead of a whiny and misleading editorial. Looks too much like there's a hook under that worm.

I think I have a sane balance of mistrust of authority and power and an equally balanced view of what might and might not be a conspiracy. Of course everybody thinks that, even the metal foil hat brigade.

I am going with there is/was a 'credible threat' in this case.
