Is What's Wrong with Kids today, their Parents?
Re: Is What's Wrong with Kids today, their Parents?
$300,00? Fuck, if I were a kid I'd stage being harassed by other kids in order to get sympathy money. This is nothing. I mean violence in schools happens all the time and kids face a hell of a lot worse than this in public schools. Anyone who finds this, 'shocking!' is living under a rock.

Re: Is What's Wrong with Kids today, their Parents?
I think she was too old and out of her element to be a bus driver supporter for that age of kids. Kids are mean bastards when they're not at home.
My oldest daughter was made fun on on her bus by some girl, until one day she snapped, got off the bus where she got off, and swept the cemented sidewalk with her face. The girls mother came to my house with her daughter complaining about what my daughter did. Instead of jumping on my daughter about what she had done, I wanted to hear her side of the story. Once I realized what was happening, I gave her a high five. She was never bothered by that girl again.
Another story from the same daughter, but it was at school. Some boy kept making fun of her and her hair, saying it looks like pussy hair and one day she just snapped and gave him a kung fu kick in the face. I was called to the principles office and I wanted the whole explanation because I knew my daughter was not an instigator, but she wasn't going to take shit from nobody. She was suspended, but the boy who bullied her was not. I complained that he should be suspended as well.
I came home and I gave my daughter another high five.
Kids are cruel, and if you don't defend yourself in some way, they'll keep on picking on you and make you feel like shit.
When I was in HS, there was a group of "pretty high class bullies". They kept making fun of me because of my broken English.
One day, one of the girls from the group was walking around my neighborhood, my turf. I jumped her and beat her head against the ground until she pleaded to stop.
I was never touched again by them, or looked at. They probably thought I was some kind of foreigner psychopath. But that's ok. I put a stop to them.

He said to offer up the other cheek to be smitten. You did, and it was.
For once I'd say he wasn't lying.

Sounds like the answer to Mai's question is "yes".kiki5711 wrote:My oldest daughter was made fun on on her bus by some girl, until one day she snapped, got off the bus where she got off, and swept the cemented sidewalk with her face. Re: Is What's Wrong with Kids today, their Parents?
Growing up, if I wanted to stand up to a bullie, I'd have to make sure to do it far from the eyes of the school staff if I didn't want a suspension. They had, and still have, a policy of automatic suspensions for getting caught fighting. That gave quite an advantage to those who didn't give a fuck if they got suspended.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Kiki I applaud your attitude. Assuming the stories occurred as you have said since it sounds like perhaps their parents were the problem.
I think kids who speak English are always more problematic. If you observe many other languages there is a difference between formally and informally addressing someone which teaches people respect. An French friend of mine told me at her school it was considered worthy of sanction to formally address staff, seems fair. If we had that I, at least, believe younger people would be more respectful towards elders as they should be.
Alternatively compulsory "National Service" alike Switzerland.

You probably grew up when "bullying" involved physical contact, as did I. Apparently the modern definition of "bullying" only involves words, which is pretty easy to stand up to - just ignore it.Robert_S wrote:Growing up, if I wanted to stand up to a bullie, I'd have to make sure to do it far from the eyes of the school staff if I didn't want a suspension. The problem is that so many parents can't tell the difference between a cute, precious, unique snowflake and the snotty, arrogant brat that that they raised.

Re: Is What's Wrong with Kids today, their Parents?
Oh that's it. I remember when I was in Sixth year, there was some guy from another local school who was genuinely, pathologically dangerous. All the kids from our district knew to avoid him, he was never invited out to any functions because he would always find a way to physically hurt someone to make himself feel better. In the end he got a Stanley Knife across his throat and died. I recall when it happened However his mother was on all the local news after his inevitable murder saying how he was a good boy who'd never been in any real trouble. Which considering his numerous suspensions, expulsions, monthly visits to the Children's Panel and the like, was just blinkeredness.
Not others only mind you. My uncle was a violent murderous theiving perverse cunt who spent most of his adult life in prison before he had the decency, finally, to kill himself the day after my grandmother died.No matter what he did, to his siblings or others, my grandparents were always trying to tell us all that he was really "a good boy". He wasn't, most of us rarely are, though we all love to tell ourselves and our kids such.

They used to ban kids from the school bus for acting up. A week of either walking or an angry parent driving them to school works wonders on attitude.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.
