By all means study it. In the same way as Beowulf or the Iliad is studied! Kids seem to manage those without growing up worshipping Grendel FFS!
I read the one we had at home. We discussed the stuff in it and that was how I learned about religion. It never seemed anything but silly, like Curious George or my other kids' books, to me. I grew up an atheist.
