And what is your opinion/experience of how specifically English this is, compared to the Irish, Welsh or Scottish manner?klr wrote:+1 ... they are all eerily accurate.Millefleur wrote:I'd say they're all pretty much spot on![]()

That sounds about right based on the small sample I have encountered - at least young Irish men seem to drink like Finns, and then some.devogue wrote:The Irish are a hard, blunt, kick in the arse to the right of "What Others Understand".Ronja wrote:And what is your opinion/experience of how specifically English this is, compared to the Irish, Welsh or Scottish manner?klr wrote:+1 ... they are all eerily accurate.Millefleur wrote:I'd say they're all pretty much spot on![]()

Well, I'm Irish and it corresponds exactly to my experience of how people talk in a corporate setting here. I guess we're just that close in terms of common language and basic culture that these phrases transfer laterally between members of the "manager" caste in these islands. When we're not in that the real "corporate environment" though (even at work), then we tend to revert to type.Ronja wrote:And what is your opinion/experience of how specifically English this is, compared to the Irish, Welsh or Scottish manner?klr wrote:+1 ... they are all eerily accurate.Millefleur wrote:I'd say they're all pretty much spot on![]()

Myself and one of my co-workers have had a laugh from time to time about the amount of management speak that we encounter day to day, or even use ourselves.
And it's always not blatant "management speak" but the more subtle phrases in the OP list. They are actually much more insidious IMHO.

Re: From Anglo to EU English translation guide
Some of them are pretty much "managerish", yeah, but the rest are fairly common in everyday speech.
Understatement, generally...yep. A phrase like "pappa is awesome", for example, is clearly a translation into merkin of the more commonly heard "pappa's OK, really"

To find out reliably you of course need to conduct a thorough field study.Berthold wrote:And do Finns drink like the Russians of folklore?![]()

So you need to get together with e.g. the Finns who work or visit at Vienna International Centre (Wagramer Straße 5) - or use a transporter to get yourself over here NOW, as the biggest drinking feast, Midsummer, is about to begin.

Personally I think the answer is mostly yes.
