Re: Ex-Christians: How did you become an Atheist?
Many people figure these things out quite early. I had some hopes for God till about 16. It was then eroded away from age 16 to 45, not very relevant personally those years. It did not seem to matter all that much. But then there was a leap of faith into atheism finally. Sorry god, you lost. That Jesus chap held some magic, the old testament was frightening.
Also, the actual dogma of Christianity became so much babble, quite ridiculous in many details.

Just a turn of phrase, I hope.Tero wrote:a leap of faith into atheism
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops. - Stephen J. Gould

Not really a leap of faith, but a reasoning away from faith for me. Glad to leave it behind.

I knew someone would pick on that, that is why I put it in. But I have lept, and dropped all guilt. Well, I still have guilt, but less so to strangers and just things I do that affect family members.

I developed the ability to rationalise, as I got older. I discovered at secondary school that I had an aptitude for the sciences and the scientific way of thinking is something that's become an important part of how I live my life, so atheism was inevitable I guess.
